July is high summer in Ibiza, so daytime temperatures may reach the mid-30s °C. But humidity is not as high as later in August, so the skies are clear and blue and at night you might still be able to sleep without air conditioning. July really is the perfect time to visit the island if you love the beach and also want to experience it in full action.
This month, a very special sound marks the summer soundtrack of the island - the chirping of cicadas. Well camouflaged, they sit on the trunks of the pine trees and vibrate small plates with special muscles - and this can get really loud, reaching more than 60 decibels.
July is the driest month in Ibiza though the occasional thunderstorm may occur. The sea temperature in Ibiza peaks at 26°C, making it ideal for water sports, snorkelling and sunbathing.
This is also the month that owners of expensive yachts moor up in the marina of Ibiza Town for their summer holidays - see if you can spot any celebrities!
Events
Festivities in honour of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of mariners, also take place in July. They are marked by religious processions and wreath-laying on the sea in Ibiza Town, San Antonio, Es Cubells, Portinatx and Formentera. Keep an eye out for the flotilla of boats that leave the harbour in early evening to accompany the priest who does the blessing.
In the days around its Patron Saint day on 10 July, the popular resort Es Caná celebrates its annual fiesta, with a diverse programme with activities, concerts and events for the whole family, locals and holidaymakers alike.
