Ibiza's First iPhone Photography Exhibition

iPhone Photography ('iphoneography') is a growing phenomenon but exhibitions are rarer. COMO restaurant is to host the first exhibition focused on Ibiza iPhoneography

This Saturday, 23rd February, sees the first ever iPhone Photography exhibition in Ibiza. Of course, this is noteworthy in itself, but here at the offices of Ibiza Spotlight, it is causing much excitement as this is an exhibition of the work of none other than our very own Editor – in - Chief, Cat Milton.

iPhone Photography Success on Facebook
Cat uses her iPhone 4S to capture the most exquisite images of Ibiza which she shares on a daily basis with 378,000 fans on one of our two Facebook pages (www.facebook.com/ibizanews). The photographs never fail to inspire comments and compliments from all around the globe, and are gratefully and humbly acknowledged by Cat.

iPhone Photography - no expensive equipment needed
Somewhat surprised by the popularity of her iPhone photography and the realisation that an exhibition is very much in demand by the people of Ibiza, Cat explains that her passion is driven by two factors; firstly, by her desire to promote the beauty of Ibiza and secondly, to demonstrate that anyone can capture it - no fancy camera equipment is needed. Which is an interesting point when you consider that up to very recently, that was not the case. The history of iPhone photography is very brief indeed.

iPhone Photography historically
It is only six short years ago that the iPhone was introduced in 2007 and iPhone photography was born. Originally, there was no video recording, it was still shots only with no optical zoom and no autofocus.

By 2009, iPhone had become the most popular camera on Flickr and now boasted autofocus and video recording. Videos could be cropped and uploaded directly to You Tube and the like.

High Definition video was introduced in 2010 with tap to focus and 5 x digital zoom. Also in October 2010, Instagram - the online photo-sharing and social networking service where users can apply digital filters to their photos and then share them on sites such as Facebook and Twitter - was launched. This is arguably when iPhone Photography really came into its own, with dramatic effects and moods adding to the images.

iPhone Photography Courses on Ibiza
Cat's enthusiasm and grasp of the technology that many of us find daunting led her to start teaching iPhone Photography courses here on Ibiza earlier this year. With two successful ones already under her belt, her third course is due to start the very day after her exhibition, that is on Sunday 24th February from 11.00 hrs at the Hidden Bar, Cala san Vicente, Ibiza.

The course lasts for five Sundays, encompassing everything from basic photo composition through to HDR, Image Blending, Action photography, panoramic images and much more.
