There are a couple of urban legends which have grown up around the very relaxing pastime of de-stressing in a spa. The first is that it's impossible to write an article about Spas without using the word pamper, which is true as I've just proved. The second is that Spa is an acronym for Sanitas Per Aquam, Latin for 'health through water.'
The latter is certainly not true as the term actually comes from the name of a town in Belgium where the squeaky clean Romans found excellent showering facilities on their all conquering bathing and pillaging tour of the then known world.
What better way to relieve the daily stresses of subjugating unruly barbarian populations or building long and unwinding roads than lounge around in a hot tub eating grapes. It's no wonder then, that this vestige of the Romans is still with us, unlike Latin.
Here on Ibiza Spotlight we've three superb Five Star hotels in our portfolio where clients and visitors alike can be pampered within an inch of their lives in the luxurious Spas.
Over in Santa Eulalia the Insotel Fenicia Prestige Thalasso Spa Hotel has its own Anat Spa. An oasis of tranquillity, the curative and relaxing benefits of water are harnessed via themed pool with hydro-massage, Sauna and Turkish bath, a sensation shower, thermal loungers and of course a Jacuzzi.
Ibiza's Gran Hotel has a Spa and Wellness centre with all the standard facilities like Jacuzzi, hydrotherapy, swimming pool, hydromasage, sauna and hammam followed by an ice bath or ice fountain, along with the lesser known Kneipp treatment (a holistic approach to health,) Tisanerie (post sauna herbal tea,) Tepidarium (a Roman style warm room,) and fresh fruit (a Roman style healthy snack.)
Back in Santa Eulalia again the Aguas de Ibiza Lifestyle and Spa Hotel's Bodyna Spa - Pure Sleep, Pure Energy, Pure Being - is the perfect place to tone up and wind down after a busy day before the night begins. With 3 pools, currents to swim against, massage jets, gym, yoga, pilates and a range of treatments on offer – choose solo or a double cabin (photo) for the ultimate in intimate lounging.
