Chilling by the pool: Pikes Ibiza

The best spots on Ibiza to sip cocktails and build your tan.

For the next part of our Chilling By The Pool series, we were kindly invited down to one of the most famous and cherished spots on the island, Pikes Ibiza, to get wined and dined and live our best lives for the day.

Be advised that the pool is available to hotel guests only. Come with us to experience true luxury living and get a little taste of the day-and-night antics at one of Ibiza's most revered institutions.

By Day

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the undeniably fabulous Pikes in-house staff, who kindly showed us to our table in the restaurant for a spot of lunch.

With views of the majestic pool below and the Ibiza hills in the distance, a spot of grub at Pikes never fails to hit all of your senses.

We quickly got a steady flow of cocktails going from their signature menu, and got stuck into some delightful appetisers to start. I opted for the classic option of a burger, whilst Jo indulged in a delightful halloumi wrap - the perfect lunchtime portions.

After a leisurely lunch, we strolled on down to the pool, where a very enticing double day-lounger had our name firmly etched.

More refreshing poolside beverages followed, as we mingled and got chatting to the hotel guests. This is what happens at Pikes Ibiza, everyone is one big family. It’s like no other.

After a lunch-fuelled siesta, we were then approached by a lovely lady asking if we’d like to take part in an impromptu wine tasting. I mean, when an offer like this presents itself, how can you turn it down?

Back to the terrace we went for a special wine tasting ahead of their menu upgrade. Our sommelier Jamie  introduced himself and was well versed in his craft and on hand to answer all of our questions.

We started with a fizzing champagne followed by refreshing, mineral-based white wines. Canapes of serrano ham, cheese, and freshly made bread circled the table and heightened the senses.

Finally, Jamie poured a Source of Joy rosé. For those who avoid a rosé based on its typically sweet nature, I hear you, but this luscious vino is specifically fermented with aromas of the Mediterranean Sea to give it that almost dry flavour amongst the fruity berry notes. A top recommendation!

By Night

A quick spruce up, and we were back in action, now with the additional company of our beloved clubbing editor Steve.

First, we tucked into Pikes Ibiza’s delicious pizza menu poolside. Yes, that’s right - more food. A classic margarita, bombastic burrata and rocket, and quirky fig jam-topped concoction were our pre-party fuel-ups of choice.

Over to the dancefloor and BBC Introducing’s Jess Iszatt was more than well-equipped for opening duties in Freddies. I mean, who else is going to have the freshest of selections around?

Unfortunately, you won't see any first-hand footage from the clubbing team on this one. If you didn't know already, Pikes Ibiza goes by two strict rules -  no under 27-year-olds and no cameras by night. The memories will have to live in your head and not on Insta this time.

We made a quick jaunt into the Plaza Mayor to catch Greta Levska and Trutopia trailing immersive back-to-back territory. Then, of course, back to Freddies, where Trudy Knight and host Jaguar come out to play.

In true Pikes fashion, we took a break out back and chewed the fat in the garden with none other than the main character of this day, Mr Van Damn. It was at this point gossip circulated that Davina McCall, the British TV presenter best known for her work on cult programme Big Brother, was in the crowd and a huge fan! Dance music really is for everyone.

Soon it was time for Van Damn to take to the booth. Banger after banger Van Damn delivered beyond expectation. In doubt? This is my written permission for Steve to insert the photo of me having the time of my life as evidence.

Let’s get deep. Every now and again, you have a night out that reminds you why you entered the world of dance music. And this was it.

The intimacy and camera-free ruling of Pikes Ibiza meant that everyone lived it up in the moment, and the downright fire selections from the UTOPIA crew kept us dancing all night long. Heck, they almost had to kick us out by the time closing came around. Best night ever!

Yes, heaven really is a place on earth, and that place is Pikes Ibiza.
