Depeche Mode make significant donation to Ibiza's preservation

Pioneering British electronic rockers to support in the fight against plastic pollution in Ibiza and Formentera.

IbizaPreservation is proud to reveal a significant donation from the band Depeche Mode to help combat plastic pollution in Ibiza and Formentera. The world-famous British band will donate nearly €70,000 as part of their Memento Mori world tour and thanks to a partnership with, Conservation Collective a global network of environmental foundations of which IbizaPreservation is a member.

The band has joined forces with watch brand Hublot to support a range of projects globally via the Conservation Collective which is funding inspiring and effective grass-roots initiatives to protect the environment, restore nature, and safeguard against climate change.

Their contribution will support IbizaPreservation's Plastic Free Ibiza and Formentera project by working with businesses in the hospitality and tourism industry to reduce single-use plastics and promote a circular economy.

Among other things, the Depeche Mode funding will be used to hold a series of workshops with local stakeholders in the sector, including both companies and institutions, to raise awareness of the Global Initiative on Tourism and Plastics (GTPI) and present the tools available to signatories to help them meet the Initiative’s main objective of eliminating unnecessary plastic packaging and articles by 2025.

Further afield, Conservation Collective will channel the funds it receives through the Depeche Mode and Hublot charity partnership to projects focused on tackling plastic pollution in Kenya, Sri Lanka, Cyprus, Greece, the UK and Italy. Find out more at hublot.depechemode.com.

Band members Dave Gahan and Martin Gore of Depeche Mode explained the reasons for choosing the collaboration, saying: “We were initially drawn to Conservation Collective as a charity partner due to how tangible the work they’re doing is. So, we’re exceptionally proud to be a part of supporting and helping them expand these programs in Europe, Africa, and Asia that will meaningfully reduce plastic waste and clean up existing plastic pollution.”

What a fantastic gesture on behalf of the evergreen band to help protect our beautiful islands and congratulations to IbizaPreservation for having their excellent efforts recognised and rewarded.
