Having moved around the island since it was founded in 1986, Ibiza Cricket Club (ICC) has settled in to its fabulous new ground and is now looking to the future and seeking to expand. The club even has aspirations to win this month's Balearic Cup taking place 13, 14 and 15 May. Friday midday they will play Menorca and Saturday midday Mallorca, in matches that will be broadcast on TV!
Pitch perfect
The new home in San Lorenzo (formerly the polo club) has a purpose-built batting mat, a generously sized outfield, a big BBQ area, shaded zones and private parking.
Far from the hustle and bustle of the major towns and the beaches, it’s an amazing space for players and fans of the game alike and one that’s sure to appeal to amateurs and touring sides of all persuasions.
The venue is not only a great place to play and watch cricket on the White Isle but also perfect for a day out with family or friends.
Anyone’s game
With over 50 paying members now, the club is growing fast and attracting new talent. Recent events have included kids’ coaching sessions, T20 games and 40-over matches featuring visiting teams from Spain and the UK. The organisers also plan to establish a ladies’ team soon.
During July and August, ICC is hosting a weekly “Summer T20 Blast” every Wednesday from 6-9 pm. Designed to be a fun evening open to all, it’s sure to be a hit whether you’re a newcomer or an old hand, an island resident or a passing holidaymaker.
So, if you and your friends or family are stumped for something to do on a fine summer’s day, get yourselves over to Ibiza Cricket Club and don your whites or simply enjoy good company and the spectacle of bat on ball in a splendid setting.
