We’ve arrived on the eve of September. August would normally be the peak of summer, but as you well know by now, 2021 is anything but normal. With the evolution of the pandemic and vaccination rates continuing to improve in Europe, Ibiza is bracing itself for a late influx of tourists, with many businesses already signalling their intent to carry-on later than usual.
Plus, with spring events being postponed until the autumn, there is still plenty to do during the coming month.
If you’re one of the lucky ones arriving in the next few weeks, check-out our top tips for events taking place between now and 30 September.
Ibiza Jazz Festival expands to four days
We kick off September with the return of Ibiza Jazz Festival. Four consecutive days of live music begin on Wednesday 1 September with the free concert at Parque Reina Sofía. Afterwards, the fun moves to the Santa Lucía battalion in Dalt Vila for the next three days. Performances are due from Gonzalo del Val Trio, Ibiza Jazz Experience Quintet and a variety of international acts.
Keep On sunbathing
Island-based party promoter Keep On Dancing is back at Bora Bora on Thursday 2 September and it has booked a strong line-up.
Apollonia favourite Dan Ghenacia is joined by Hot Creations affiliate Luca Cazal and Marlon. Despite the temptation, you will need to remain firmly rooted to your seat or sunlounger, but hey, quality underground music in the sun as planes fly overhead - almost like the good old days, huh? Best keep those drinks flowing.
SUCO Yoga & SUCO Session
Taking place at Nobu Ibiza Bay on Saturday 4 and 25 September, Suco Session offers a guided mindful meditation session and social-distanced stomp that will leave you feeling liberated, elevated and free. Join 99 other attendees in this unique rooftop experience with fantastic views over Talamanca Bay.
After a one hour yoga to relax, you will be handed personal headphones and encouraged to release some pent-up energy, as DJ Jamie Beron lays on the beats. Tremendous value at €26.82 for nearly 4 hours of activity. Sign up here
Pride - a deeper love
After last year’s hiatus, Ibiza Gay Pride makes a loud and proud eight-day return in 2021, with parades, concerts, LGBT film showcase and networking events from 10 to 18 September. For the full programme, including the ever-flamboyant Grand Parade march, head to the official website.
Bombs away!
Paul Reynolds, Ben Santiago, Scott Gray and Corbi are back with their monthly Melon Bomb get-together at their spiritual home, Tanit Beach Ibiza on Sunday 19 September.
Always guaranteed to sell-out, you’ll want to make your reservations nice and early. Even if you miss out, for our money, it’s worth rocking up and setting up on the beach nearby. Full Disco and House vibes on the Playa d’en Bossa sand.
Lunar marvels
Ibiza is known as a sun-worshipper's paradise, but did you know we’re also pretty fond of howling at the moon? This month, the full moon falls on 21 September and we have several events to take your pick from.
At 7Pines Ibiza Resort’s Pure Seven Spa, you can bask in the moonlight for a spot of Full Moon Yoga. Or, a little less active, how about a romantic Full Moon Dinner illuminated by our satellite at Amante’s romantic east coast setting. A third option is the Full Moon Live Show at W Hotel, featuring Bahramji and Medusa Odyssey.
On your marks, get set, GO!
If the Olympics and Paralympics have inspired you this summer, then our next suggestion might be worth taking into consideration. Are you feeling fit? The Ibiza Half Marathon takes place on Sunday 26 September, starting in San José all the way to the marina in Ibiza Town, via Cala Jondal and San Jordi.
There is also a 10km race, running in parallel. Anybody keen to get involved still has time to register. However, we think we’ll settle for spectating this time round.
Notorious forger Elmyr de Hory goes under the spotlight
Before mass tourism and the arrival of Acid House, in the 1960s and ‘70s, Ibiza was a magnet for film stars, writers, free-thinkers, other bohemian types… and one notorious art forger. Elmyr de Hory has been the subject of many entries into popular culture, but now the misunderstood and tragic impersonator is being honoured in his own exhibition.
Space Ibiza owner Pepe Rosello invites you to learn about this skilled, but troubled and ultimately manipulated artist. On show at Far de ses Coves Blanques already, all the way until 25 September.
Cova Santa’s September highlights
Gastroclub and mixologist specialist, Cova Santa’s incredibly popular events series continues into September. Although the full programme is yet to be published, dinner with music takes place daily from 19:00 until 01:00.
A few key dates to keep your eyes on, include the return of Magdalena's Shadows on Tuesday 7 September and the third installment of Sasha’s LUZoSCURA on Monday 13 September, as well as the final three RUMORS dates with Guy Gerber on 14, 21 and 28 September.
Gay Disco collective Horse Meat Disco kick things off on Wednesday 1 September, for another unmissable showcase. Please place all booking enquiries directly with Cova Santa.
Farm To Table fresh at Nikki Beach Ibiza
Every Wednesday throughout September, Nikki Beach Ibiza invites you to indulge in a lunchtime menu of exclusively grown local produce.
Collaborating with nearby Terramasia Organic Farm, Nikki Beach has crafted a tasting menu of fish, meat and colourful veggies with a carbon-footprint of zero. This delicious and sustainable three-course menu includes a glass of wine and is available for just €55 per head. Plus, you get to enjoy it in Nikki Beach’s sumptuous surroundings.
Party Calendar
Despite dancefloors remaining off-limits for the moment, music events are still being added to our party calendar. A few stand-outs coming up, include Marco Carola (2 and 9 September) and Peggy Gou (Sunday 5 September) headlining Ushuaïa’s seated, table-service affair Palmarama.
Head there to check listings and request bookings for Ibiza Rocks, O Beach and to book theatrical dining experiences at the new 528 Ibiza.
