Festival Save Posidonia to raise our consciousness

Festival Save Posidonia from 12-15 October brings art, culture and sport to help conserve Formentera's sea grass.

The island of Formentera launches a brand new four-day event called Festival Save Posidonia which kicks off from Thursday 12 October. With a raft of activities and cultural events, the festival aims to raise awareness of the importance of the sea grass that gives the island its crystal-clear waters.

A raft of aquatic adventures on the sea can be had with kayak, windsurfing, kite surfing and Stand up Paddle (SUP) boarding as part of the Formentera Blue experience. You can simply turn up and pay or to ensure your place, you can also pre-register on the event's web page.

For those looking for more contemplative and nature-connecting activities, you will be able to take part in multiple forms of yoga from hatha to astanga to ‘family' yoga. If you still wanted a nautical feel, then SUP yoga direct on the boards is for you.

A total of 25 works of art will be on display featuring local and national artists and world-famous ones, such as Philippe Starck, Sergi Flama and Alain Darre. All the works will be auctioned off at the end of the festival to help raise additional funds.

For those wishing to learn more, a series of workshops in the island's capital of San Francisco (Sant Francesc), including a musical one, is designed to help people understand the value of Posidonia as well as understand what can be done to protect it.

The festival hopes to highlight the importance of this noble plant to marine life as well as raise awareness to the fact that it is under threat.

You can find much more information about the various activities on offer by going to the event's website.

For a fun-filled four days and to support this valuable sea plant, head on over to Formentera this week.
