This Wednesday evening (the 11th of June) a few cars will roll into Ibiza town to conclude this teeny tiny thing called the Gumball 3000 rally. No big deal really, just the final climax of a continent-crossing, 120 strong supercar rally with international acclaim started by ex-racing driver and entrepeneur Maximillion Cooper and featuring a Tony Hawk skate board half pipe show, live performance from Deadmau5 and A-lister celebrity participation. Just a chilled one then.
The most prestigious and high profile car rally in the world has travelled all the way from Miami USA via Atlanta, New York, Edinburgh, London, Paris and Barcelona, finally docking onto the white isle in San Antonio before charging across the island in a dazzling convoy to end up on display for all to see along Carrer Andenes of Ibiza town port.
Starting from 6pm, there will be family-friendly entertainment including an incredible display of skills from skateboarding legend Tony Hawk and friends on a specially erected half pipe vert ramp. You'll be able to get a gawk nice and close up of all the rare and state-of-the-art cars which have participated in the rally this year, plus a live show from the biggest mouth - sorry - mouse in dance music, Deadmau5, for whom Ibiza gigs are a rare and special occurrence. We can promise there will be nothing ‘background' about an event soundtrack from the mau5!
Over the years Gumbal 3000 has become more than just a car rally. It attracts celebrities like moths to a flame (this year Eve, Xhibit, Tinie Tempah and David Hasselhoff are all behind the wheel) and with entertainment and fan fare at every stop is something that the whole community can participate in and enjoy – and it won't cost a thing.
Gumball shenanigens continue past Wednesday evening, for those who really want to make a party of it. On Wednesday night it's on to Steve Aoki at Pacha, and then Thursday afternoon Destino Ibiza will host a glamorous pool party and awards ceremony to wrap up proceedings in style.
