Shops
From department stores and hypermarkets to stylish boutiques and shops, Ibiza offers both residents and visitors a wide range of retail options.
Traditional foods, designer fashion-wear, unique jewellery, gifts and hand-crafted art to delight are all easily found across the island.
Whilst opening times do vary, a general rule of thumb is that the bigger shops - department stores and hypermarkets etc - tend to stay open all day until late into the evening during the high summer season.
The smaller and more traditional shops - bakeries, tobacconists and paper shops etc - tend to respect the siesta lifestyle, opening anywhere between 08:00-09:00 and closing around 13:30-14:00; and then they open again between 16:30-17:00 in the evening and, depending on the season, stay open until 20:30 or even as late as 22:00.
Numerous shops in Ibiza, even the smaller ones, open seven days a week in high season, but prior to June and after September, they tend to be closed on a Sunday.
The larger supermarkets in the main towns are open between 09:00 and 21:00 Monday to Saturday, and from 09:00 to 15:00 on Sundays during high season, whilst the smaller local supermarkets tend to close for siesta in the afternoons, and are generally not open on Sundays. Find here a selection of typical supermarkets on Ibiza, recommended by Ibiza Spotlight, and go shopping where the locals do.
Please bear in mind that as Ibiza has a very relaxed attitude when it comes to opening and closing times. The times given above are guidelines only: many shops are a law unto themselves on the White Isle and not just for their opening times!
Post
Post offices in Ibiza Town and Santa Eulalia open between 08:30 and 20:30 Monday to Friday and from 09:30-13:00 on Saturdays. All the other post offices are normally open in the mornings to around 14:30, though check the individual post office opening times online to be sure.
The post office (Oficina de Correos) has an online branch locator found at the link below. This tool allows you to find the nearest post office to you simply by entering the post code of where you are staying. Opening hours are given for each branch too
You can buy stamps from tobacconists, called an estanco. Look for the brown and yellow shop sign for the word 'Tabacs'. Newspaper shops (papelerias) and your hotel reception also sell stamps.
If you are sending postcards, we recommend that you use the official postal service (most hotel receptions will do this on your behalf) as the private postal services have a bad reputation, with several holidaymakers reporting that their cards never arrived.
Banks and Credit Cards
Most banks open from 08:30-14:00 Monday to Friday, but close on Saturdays and Sundays. Almost all places selected by Ibiza Spotlight accept major credit cards, the exception being the Diners Club Card, accepted only in a limited number of places.
