Phoning home
Dial 00 and your country code.
For some countries you have to leave out the initial 0 of the number you want to call, for example the UK and Germany. For example, to call the UK, you dial 0044 and leave the 0 off the town prefix (for Nottingham this would be - 0044 115 1234567).
It can be very expensive to call home from a mobile, so better use the call function of a messenger app like WhatsApp or Facetime.
Data roaming
Remember that using data roaming abroad can be very expensive. You can turn mobile data off when abroad and only use the internet when connected to Wi-Fi. Or check costs with your provider and consider buying a package for data roaming.
Roaming within the European Union is usually included. Find more information about this here.
Calling a number in Spain
If calling from abroad or from your mobile, you will need to prefix the numbers below with +34, the Spanish International Dialing code. For European countries, the + has to be substituted with 00.
After the prefix, dial the complete number: from the 971 region code for the Balearic Islands, nothing has to be left out. So if you want to call the Can Misses hospital from your British mobile, dial: 0034 971 397 000.
902 numbers may not work well from phones registered abroad and can be costly.
Emergency telephone numbers
EMERGENCY = 112 (international standard emergency number, working from most international mobiles and landlines).
This number is for all sorts of emergencies, this is always the best number to call. It works from any phone, without a country code, even without a SIM card.
Police
If you need non-urgent assistance and don't speak Spanish, you can call 902 102 112 (in case of an emergency call 112).
