Spotlight Tours are proud to present our fourth hire car itinerary which takes us from sea level in San Antonio on a journey through breathtaking scenery to the island's highest point in San Jose.

There'll be plenty of opportunity for relaxation and refreshments along the way, as well as some fantastic photo opportunities, so bring your beach towel, camera and a hearty appetite.

San Antonio - Cala Bassa

Head out of San Antonio always keeping the sea on your right hand side as you travel round the island's biggest bay toward Port des Torrent. Here package tour land ends and the real Ibiza begins as you encounter country roads fringed by pines, villas and cottages in the hills and glimpses of the sea round every corner.

Cala Bassa beach is a long arc of golden sand bounded by clear blue seas, pinewoods and rocky cliffs and is understandably popular. Stay awhile, swim and sunbathe, or take a coffee in one of the café bars nestling in the shade of the pines.

Allow time to take a look at the ad hoc, yet charming, religious shrines placed on the rocky hill at the far end of the beach by the man who lives in the nearby cave. History hikers could stroll round the rugged coastline to the Torre de Comte, a defence tower at Rovira point which controlled the entrance to San Antonio Bay.

Cala Bassa - Cala Conta

Soon after leaving Cala Bassa, take the first junction to the right, a dusty track leading to Cala Conta. The view of the boats at anchor, seemingly floating in mid-air, so clear and turquoise is the water, is priceless.

With three small beaches (you won't need your swimming costume on one of them) beach bars and a really good restaurant with views of the islands there's enough entertainment without trying to spot Elle MacPherson in her cliff top summer home nearby.

Cala Conta - Cala Tarida

Again with the sea on your right follow the coast road to Cala Tarida. A small family resort with a wonderful, safe, sandy beach and clear water. One of our favourite restaurants, Ca's Mila sits above the beach and is a wonderful place for a late lunch.

Cala Tarida - San Agustin

Here's our insiders' tip: for a perfect, quiet, non-commercialised beach, visit Cala Moli, just round the corner from Cala Tarida, and don't forget your goggles and snorkel.

San Agustin is a typical island village, a few country cottages straggling round the ancient church, a restaurant and a bar. This is a place to relax and contemplate the views of the green rolling hills all around.

San Agustin - San Jose

It's only 5 minutes and a few hairpin bends up to the capital city of the area. San Jose is blessed with 2 cakeshops, several bars (one of which has no name), restaurants, and in Destino, one of the most innovative tapas bars in Ibiza. It's ideal for a short snack stop or a longer break for a full meal, the choice is yours.
