Situated on the north coast of Ibiza, Puerto de San Miguel (Port de Sant Miquel in Catalan) was once the fishing port of San Miguel village, but is now a popular small resort with families and those in search of peace and quiet.

Here can be found one of the most sheltered beaches on the island, nestled in a cove and surrounded by lush pine-covered cliffs. A good distance away from the hustle and bustle of the major resorts, Puerto de San Miguel is the ideal location for those seeking tranquility and beautiful surroundings in a holiday.

Shops and restaurants

There are some souvenir shops and small supermarkets, where you can buy all you need for a day on the beach and the essentials if you are staying in a self-catering apartment.

Several bars and restaurants line the beach, including two very popular fish restaurants - locals come from all over the island to eat here, for example Bullit de Peix, the typical Ibicencan fish dish, or Arróz meloso con bogavante, a fish stew with rice and lobster.

The beach

Puerto de San Miguel boasts a wide, very beautiful beach with all the facilities like sunbeds and parasols, but there is also plenty of space to put your towel done on the fine soft sands, or play some beach games without disturbing anyone.

The wonderfully clear water shimmers in all shades of blue and turquoise and is mostly calm due to the protective cliffs. The seabed slopes gently, making it ideal for splashing around.

Things to do

There is a choice of water sports for you to explore the stunning coastline, or enjoy an excursion on land, for example with the popular tourist train. For the little ones, there is a nice playground behind the beach, under the shade of pine trees.

And you should definitely visit the interesting dripstone caves Cuevas Can Marça; just walk up the road on the right side of the bay - the effort will be rewarded with fantastic views. The guided tours through the intricate cave system are interesting and fun.

The surrounding hills are ideal for long walks through the beautiful landscape in the north of the island. At the left of the bay, you can follow a path along the coastline up to the watch tower Torre des Molar - an easy to medium-level walk of about 30 to 40 minutes each way. On the other side, you can walk to the stunning bay Cala Benirrás, which will take about an hour - the steep climb is rewarded with marvellous views.

Getting there

Puerto de San Miguel is well connected with the rest of the island. By hired car, it is only a 30-minute drive to the large towns of the island; Ibiza Town, San Antonio or Santa Eulalia.

Buses run regularly to Ibiza Town and San Antonio, a few times per week to Santa Eulalia and also to the hippy market in Es Caná.

Accommodation

There are a number of hotels and apartment complexes lining the beach and built right into the cliffs, offering the most stunning sea views. Recently renovated, they include a luxury, adults-only option.

There are also some very nice rural hotels in the area. Or have a look at the nearby holiday villas - living the dream as the VIPs and celebrities do on the island!
