Review: Hed Kandi Opening 2012

Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you...

From Katy Perry lookalikes strutting their stuff on the podiums to cupcakes hanging from the ceiling, Hed Kandi went an extra mile last night with their production and decor to mark the start of their season and to celebrate their 10th birthday.

Hed Kandi parties always ooze glitz and glam and last nights opening fiesta was no different; with beautiful dancers at every turn in anything from sheer dresses to delicate smalls which paired with the already lavish set up of Es Paradis made the whole party a rather up market affair. The champagne was flowing in the VIP section whilst Lovely Laura perched on a huge number 10 hanging from the roof where she passionately performed Laurent Garnier's classic 'The Man With The Red Face' and Dean Oram was let loose on percussion to accompany the uplifting Hed Kandi soundtrack whilst dressed head to toe in a rather unique LED outfit. Embracing all that Hed Kandi is famous for the opening party succeeded on every level to provide a fun spirited and visually amazing evening for all who attended.

The crowd was filled with various hen do's, fancy dress fanatics, locals and tourists who all lapped up the dance-floor classics such as Shirley Bassey's hit 'Big spender', 'Boogie wonderland' by Earth wind and fire, Coldplay's 'Paradise' and Nomad's track 'Devotion'. The bouncy vibe of the night made way for fantastic sets by headlining act Treasure Fingers as well as Hed Kandi residents Sam Cannon, DJ Eibhlin and Phil Faversham; and with the new positioning of the DJ Booth - now to the back right of the ground floor, the crowd could experience a more intimate connection with the artist.

From the huge queue outside the waterfront venue to the happy and diverse crowd inside partying the night away there was no denying that the well known party brand had a great start to the season and is set to impress this summer with their 10th anniversary parties. The evening stayed true to Hed Kandi style but also provided clubbers with a few surprises along the way adding that something special to the party. A break dancing duo unleashed some powerful moves on the platform in front of the DJ booth as did a rather dazzling diva with a fire performer and trapeze artist adding a little bit of danger to an otherwise heavenly party.
