With the impressive fifteen-years-in-Ibiza milestone out of the way, Cocoon turns its energy to the future, concocting a fresh and diverse seasonal line-up to celebrate its sweet sixteenth and, most importantly, get everybody dancing.
The charismatic techno patriarch Sven Väth will play 14 of Cocoon's 18 parties this summer, room hopping once more with 9 shows on the terrace and 5 over in main. The scale and energy of the Sven Väth terrace parties are incredible - there's no doubt it's the popular room these days - but we're also glad to see Väth still work his magic from his old post in the dark and cave-like main room - the original techno cocoon.
There are few who can match the presence and skill of Sven Väth, but among them is alternative techno legend Ricardo Villalobos. Playing six dates and enlisting the help of some special muso colleagues, Villalobos will be Väth's right hand man this season, his talent, eccentricity and overwhelming passion for music has been a perfect fit for Cocoon Ibiza since its pioneering days in 1999.
Speaking of the pioneering days, a younger Richie Hawtin was shown the Ibiza way by our Papa Sven back at the turn of the millenium and now, though busy with his own Ibiza party and projects, continues the recent tradition of a yearly visit to his old stomping ground at Cocoon. This one always goes off. Another long-time Cocoon friend Adam Beyer returns with 5 dates this summer - the talented Beyer often proving his talents by holding down a big crowd in the main room against the pull of Väth on the terrace.
The beautiful melodies of Innervisions are once more a part of the Cocoon season sound, with Âme, Dixon and Henrik Schwarz all on the bill. Also keeping it smooth will be Mano Le Tough, with DJ Koze also returning to keep us on our toes.
The UK scene gets a big push this year with Hot Since 82, Eats Everything, Scuba, Subb-an, Enzo Siragusa and a slightly left-of-the-Ibiza-field booking that we're particularly excited about, Joy Orbison.
There's a hugely diverse sound coming through this year, from Ten Walls to tINI, Carl Craig to Solomun, who makes his Cocoon debut.
