Ibiza: Isle of Contrasts

If there's anything that illustrates the totally contrasting aspects, like night and day, of the Ibiza year

If there's anything that illustrates the totally contrasting aspects, like night and day, of the Ibiza year it's the population statistics of the island. It's sometimes difficult to imagine how completely different one place can be in the space of just a few months, so just imagine this.

sardines packed together

Sardine day occurred on 9th August 2011 when there were 336,240 people packed onto the island, so is it any wonder that it's difficult to get a sun lounger, a taxi or a ticket to see Guetta?

The tumble weed day, when there are seemingly more taxis than people, was Christmas Eve when a mere 127,919 people were about, so no problems getting a Turkey for the following day!

This 'light and dark' trait isn't just confined to Ibiza, it's Balearic wide as the figures for Mallorca (1,348,530 v 839,400) and Menorca (209,900 v 88,899) show.

So, when would you prefer to be in Ibiza?

nb. our photo may or may not show sardines, but came unlabelled from our fish stock photos, and does the job illustrating how packed together certain fish can be.
