Restaurant review: Skinny Kitchen, Figueretas

The renowned all-day all-night restaurant gets the taste test.

From the west to the east coast of Ibiza, Skinny Kitchen now claims two spots on the island in response to its growing popularity amongst both tourists and locals - and last week, team Spotlight got to try out first what the Figueretas branch had to offer.

Perched in an inviting position that perfectly captures the laid-back yet vibrant energy of Ibiza, the newest Skinny Kitchen is located on the picturesque promenade of Figueretas Beach, with views that stretch from Dalt Vila to Playa d'en Bossa.

Whether you’re looking for a hearty breakfast, a healthy lunch, or an intimate dinner, it's an ideal spot to enjoy everything from a leisurely morning coffee to a sunset cocktail with friends or family.

The menu is diverse, with bright, colourful and healthy dishes augmented by flavours from around the world. For breakfast or brunch, you can indulge in options like hot breakfasts, pancakes, fruit bowls, and a variety of smoothies and juices. They even offer a bottomless brunch twice a week, an experience that combines delicious food with live entertainment, making it a must-try for all of you feeling up to the challenge (or for those who aren't too hungover already).

Lunch options include generous portions of classics, such as poke bowls, along with a variety of side dishes perfect for sharing. In the evening, the menu expands to include an impressive selection of starters and main courses, from steaks and hamburgers to mouthwatering vegan and vegetarian dishes.

No palate is left behind at Skinny - the variety is endless!

We started our meal with a trio of appetisers that had our mouths watering from the get-go. The whipped feta, crowned with olives and harissa oil, was a delightfully creamy start, paired perfectly with warm flatbread.

The arancini balls were crispy and rich, served with a velvety tomato butter sauce and a unique pistachio pesto that added a nutty depth to the dish.

Crispy baby calamari, complemented by pickles and tangy wasabi mayonnaise, was a definite highlight, offering a perfect balance of both flavours and textures.

As well as starters, we each opted for some refreshing drinks to quench our thirst from their extensive selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. From sangria jugs to daiquiris, prosecco, and their signature Skinny Colada, there really is something for everyone. I can also confirm that their Bloody Mary ranked highly in my 'Book of Marys'.

For the main course, I opted for the salmon miso, which was a masterclass in balanced sweet and sour flavours. The salmon was perfectly cooked with a soft inside and crispy skin, and its richness was beautifully offset by the umami-packed miso.

My dining companions went for the steak board and Asian noodles, both of which were equally impressive. The sirloin steak looked tender and juicy, served with a choice of peppercorn sauce or chimichurri, and accompanied by well-seasoned fries and mixed greens, while the Asian noodles were a vibrant mix of edamame, broccoli, pak choi, red pepper, and carrot, all tossed in a flavourful miso dressing with a hint of chilli and toasted sesame. With this dish, you also have the option to add a protein of your choice - from teriyaki salmon to chicken skewers or miso mushrooms, you can customise this dish to suit your tastebuds.

Dessert was the perfect end to our meal. The hot half-baked cookie dough with Nutella, pistachios, and vanilla ice cream was mouthwatering to say the least, while the coconut cheesecake offered a lighter, tropical contrast to cleanse our palettes.

Reflecting on our overall experience at the new and improved Skinny Kitchen, we were thoroughly impressed. Service was smooth and well-paced and the attention to detail in the presentation of the dishes was everything you’d want and more when dining out.

SK also offers good value for money when considering the quality of the food, the stunning location, and the overall vibe. The generous portions and the fresh, well-prepared ingredients make it worth the splurge, and the variety of options on the menu ensures that there’s something for every need and budget, whether you’re there for a simple brunch or a more indulgent dinner.
