Nowadays, Ibiza's peerless music scene is the envy the world over. For such a tiny island, we wield a global influence like few others. Way back when it all started in 1954 in the small village of San Carlos. It was there and then that Las Dalias opened its doors.
Officially Ibiza's oldest music venue, Las Dalias celebrates its 70th anniversary on Monday 19 August with a special day and night party called PEACE N' MUSIC.
Former Flower Power resident DJ Joan Ribas is joined by Javi Box, first playing outside in Las Dalias garden from 18:00 to 23:00 and after inside intimate club space Akasha until late.
The significance of Las Dalias and its long-lasting effect on Ibiza cannot be downplayed, especially when you consider the conditions under which it flourished.
Initiated by the Beatnik movement of the 1950s and later enlarged with the influx of draft dodgers, army deserters and other new-age thinkers, San Carlos rose to prominence as Ibiza's original hippy commune.
It's no coincidence that a thriving music scene developed here - and Las Dalias was its creative hub.
This was also the time when the dictator General Franco ruled Spain. Non-native music was essentially banned for most of his reign, but away from prying eyes and not discounting the island's tolerant nature, musicians from all over the world came to play at Las Dalias.
Quite a rebel - and that is an attitude that prevails into the modern day.
While acoustic guitars and drumming have (largely, but not entirely - see parties such as Namaste and alfresco concert series Back To Live) given way to electronic beats, Las Dalias has not forgotten its hippy heritage.
