Eivissa Daurada concert brings sweet music to our ears

A candlelit concert to be remembered and revisited at 528 Ibiza.

Last Friday, May 31, saw the inaugural concert in the series Eivissa Daurada Concerts. It was held at the ideal venue of 528 Ibiza, in the Benimussa Hills, just outside San Antonio.

Overlooking the bay of San Antonio, 528 Ibiza provided a beautiful setting for a concert designed to support the island’s initiatives that enhance and enrich the culture of Ibiza and its artists. Eivissa Daurada Concerts aims to transmit a different reality of the island by means of an inclusive experience that is respectful of the island.

Those attending arrived from 20:00 onwards to enjoy a drink from the bar service and the chance to grab a bite to eat in the form of mini pizzas prepared by Pizza Conmigo Chef.

It was to be a magical, multi-sensorial experience in which the music, the gorgeous lighting created by the ample use of candles and the sunset itself came together to create an unforgettable atmosphere. The concert highlighted the use of strings and percussion instruments as it paid homage to some of the leading contemporary composers. Attendees were seated quite close to the stage, ensuring an intimate ambience.

By 21:30, the concert was ready to commence. The different works and the musicians were introduced - sotto voce - by the cellist Carlos Vesperinas. The musicians of the ensemble were Ramsés Puente on the violin, Miguel Falomir on the viola, Carlos Vesperinas on the cello, Samuel Pérez on the piano, and Héctor Koa who sang with the most beautiful voice that carried sweetly to the audience. In addition, this highly talented musician also played the hang - a Swiss-made instrument with a multi-cultural background - the wonderfully evocative duduk, a traditional double-reed woodwind instrument of Armenian origin, the piano and the guitar.

The enthralling concert featured works by such modern composers as Hans Zimmer, Ludovico Einaudi, Hania Rani, Olafur Arnalds and  Max Richter as well as songs by groups such as The Cinematic Orchestra or The Irrepressibles. So different from everything else you normally hear on Ibiza, the concert was truly special; indeed, time seemed to stand still for the duration it lasted, captivating the listeners thanks to the quality of the musical performances and the beautiful atmosphere.

Almost too soon, the concert came to an end. Never fear though as the Festival’s organisers are already confirming more dates for performances in other venues around the island.
