Ibiza beach of the week: Port d'es Torrent

A great choice for families, Port d'es Torrent offers safe swimming, snorkelling, and water sports in a lovely, natural setting.

Situated at the far southwest end of San Antonio Bay, Port d'es Torrent is a popular beach that’s perfect for families. Thanks to its westward-facing location, it’s also a great spot for viewing the west coast’s famous sunsets.

Measuring about 200m from end to end, it has a softly shelving beach, shallow, turquoise waters and wide golden sands. The bay is protected from the waves, making it ideal for families looking for somewhere that’s safe for youngsters to swim. Lining the cove are areas of rocks from which it is possible to snorkel or discover a secluded spot away from the crowd.

There is a wooden walkway that allows you to cross the rocky section between the sand and the sea, but it’s probably a good idea to use footwear anyway.

If you enjoy aquatic activities, Port d'es Torrent has various water sports including pedalos and stand-up paddle. There is also a lifeguard station with speciality aids to assist those with mobility issues to enter the water.

It’s easy to reach Port d'es Torrent from San Antonio thanks to the regular bus service. For those who enjoy travelling under their own steam, it is possible to walk the 12km trail from San Antonio; generally considered an easy route, it takes about two and a half hours on foot. Getting there by bike is another option.

What’s more, there is a water taxi service to San Antonio that departs six times per day from the tiny jetty.

Restaurants and bars

Right on the beach itself, you will see the rustic-looking restaurant,Tigre Morado, which specialises in tasty Peruvian food. On the approach road down to the beach, the long-standing Spanish restaurant, El Viejo Gallo, famed for its meats, fish and seafood, is another must-visit dining treat.

Litter disposal

Please make use of the coloured recycling bins (see this article if new to you) when disposing of your litter and - if you smoke - make sure to take your used cigarette butts with you. See our article on Responsible Smoking on Ibiza's Beaches here

So, if you have small children and want a relaxed day at the beach, Port d'es Torrent is the place for you!
