Party preview | Pyramid Special raises the curtain at Amnesia

All you need to know about the first party back at Amnesia on Friday 28 April.

About Pyramid

Taking inspiration from Amnesia's Techno parties of old, Pyramid is the club's in-house production specialising in underground dance music. It has been one of the few parties to not just book female talent, but give them peak-time billing.

Away from its weekly parties (Sunday nights last year), Pyramid has slipped into this wonderful habit of gifting us one-offs throughout the year. This is one such occasion - and a great preview for the summer ahead.

Want to know more? We answer your burning questions: when? where? who? and how?

When?

Friday 28 April, 23:00 to 06:00

Amnesia Ibiza by Alberto Alcocer

Pyramid Special takes place immediately after IMS Grand Finale - the outdoor party in the Old Town. The three-day-long International Music Summit is a busy period widely regarded as Ibiza's season's curtain-raiser.

The conference and industry meet-up is a great excuse for a party and, it won't come as any surprise, but people who work in the party business know how to party! Flights and hotels tend to be much more affordable compared to peak summer, making it an excellent time to visit.

Where?

Amnesia - one of Ibiza's most decorated clubs and a brand that wields worldwide influence.

It has two awesome, but completely different dancefloors - and both of them retain legendary status on the island. The Terraza is a clubber's paradise, rectangular in shape with a spring-like mattress of a dancefloor, that reacts to the united rhythm of those moving on it.

Meanwhile, the Main Room is darker and less symmetrical with various tiers. Both are powered by recently installed KV2 audio sound systems and each has a VIP balcony overlooking the action (to which you can upgrade to gain access - see tickets below).

Due to its music policy, programming and untamable crowd, Pyramid is a party that utilises both spaces to their full potential. This is a chance to see Amnesia take it from nought to sixty in the blink of an eye. You won't believe the club has been closed for five months.

Who?

Let's come first to Luciano - a veteran of Amnesia's Terraza. His solo exploits tell their own story, but he has also shared this hallowed DJ booth with many back-to-back partners. Ricardo Villalobos, [a:rpia:r] Soundsystem and Loco Dice are a few names that spring to mind.

In each instance, these combos have taken us off-piste. Luciano is an unpredictable DJ on his own, but add another variable into the mix and it's pointless speculating how things will turn out.

Arapu is accustomed to vastly more intimate rooms than the Terraza. By placing him out of his comfort zone and alongside a maverick like Luciano, we have a delicious prospect on our hands.

Daughter of legendary New York DJ Jellybean, Layla Benitez made inroads into Ibiza last summer and is set to capitalise on that introduction in 2023. The British-American DJ is fond of deep percussion and soulful melodies that embody the Afro House sub-genre.

In the Main Room, we can be more certain of how things will pan out. Amelie Lens might be the most talked-about DJ of the past five years - and for good reason. The Belgian prodigy has been a breath of fresh air in a scene largely still dominated by male performers.

Since she broke through, Amelie Lens has consistently proven her doubters wrong and redefined the role of the modern DJ. She likes it fast, pumping Acid and raising the blood pressure of the dancefloor.

Joining her is Klangkeustler. Not overly familiar with Ibiza audiences, Klangkeustler is spotted more often in the city hubs on the Spanish mainland where Techno thrives. Peddling a version of the sound that nods to the '90s and early '00s era, he's the ideal foil for Amelie Lens.

Amnesia's resident DJs - nobody knows the club better

Cuartero, Luca Donzelli and Mathias Kaden know the club inside out. If you've not heard of them, that's okay. They have smaller profiles than the other names on the bill, but here's a little secret: each is an accomplished DJ capable of working the dancefloor.

Get there early a get a lesson on how to play a warm-up set and build a night from the ground up. It's a science in itself. Few have the pedigree of these three, in a club the stature of Amnesia.

Why?

Still need convincing? How long have you got... because:

  • Luciano on Amnesia's Terraza spells magic! Throw in the unknown quantity of Arapu into the mix and that's a tantalising equation
  • Techno poster girl Amelie Lens bringing her pounding beats to the Main Room
  • Pyramid consistently attracts one of the most musically savvy yet loco crowds on Ibiza
  • once an Amnesia regular, Mathias Kaden is back for the first time since 2019 and welcomed with open arms
  • Pyramid commands a strong local turnout. It's a Spanish party. "When in Rome, do as the Romans do..."
  • Pyramid's podium dancers are in a different league: weird, provocative, sensual, camp
  • after the last tune has faded at IMS Grand Finale in the castle, you're going to be eager to continue
  • it's Amnesia's first party of summer - a measuring yard that sets the pace
