Two of Ibiza, nay, the world's most enigmatic DJ talents will be cast together yet again this coming 9 October, as Pyramid celebrates part two of its closing party. Amnesia's Sunday night party brings the curtain down in style.
For 17 weeks, in addition to an extra pre-season preview, Pyramid has been the go-to for Techno and Minimal sounds. It's certainly been a party where ear-defenders are not just recommended, but necessity.
With week 18 looming large, we're putting the talent under the spotlight. Here's why the final Pyramid date will be conjuring magic.
Back-to-back mayhem
United not only through their nationality, but through their musical bond, Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano are a match both on paper and in the flesh.
Individually, their sets on the club's Terrace are much lauded. They earned their stripes in this room, as part of the original Cocoon class.
Luciano would go on to host his own residencies and slowly transitioned away from the Minimal sound that both had become known for. Villalobos, meanwhile, stayed loyal. That was, until Cocoon itself moved to pastures new and departed. Few dancefloors and DJs go together quite as well. Not only did Villalobos decide to stick with Amnesia, but he became Pyramid-exclusive.
Villalobos has already shown his deftness for the back-to-back format this summer. Most recently with the Romanian collective RPR Soundsystem - more familiar bedfellows.
Overall a DJ who thrives playing over a longer set-time, it could be argued that the best is pulled out from him when paired up. Luciano is one such partner with catalytic properties.
We anticipate the dancefloor being awash with magic, those transcendental early morning hours.
The best female DJs on the planet
When it comes to balancing the ratio of men to women on line-ups, Pyramid has done better than most. Throughout summer we've caught sets from Sama' Abdulhadi, Deborah de Luca, Sonia Moonear and even fast-rising stars Indira Paganotto and Gabrielle Kwarteng.
This booking policy continues at the closing party part two.
Leader of the gang, tINI joins Luciano and Villalobos on The Terrace. The German DJ has just finished her residency a little further up the road at Underground, so arrives riding a wave. Another DJ who came up through the ranks at Cocoon, tINI will savour returning to this booth.
Next door, another German, Helena Hauff, will be making her one and only Amnesia appearance of 2022. Hamburg's Electro and Techno dark queen is in the business of playing records that nobody else would dare touch. Still a novelty to see play on Ibiza, despite her growing profile.
Alternatively, somebody who has wowed audiences here all summer, is rising talent Lilly Palmer. Making her fifth Amnesia appearance since mid-May, Lilly's stature within the scene has grown over that period.
She was the surprise package at Pyramid's opening party, so it feels quite prophetic that she returns having made a name for herself. At the start of summer, a lot of people perhaps hadn't heard about her or were not so familiar.
Now, people are talking about going especially for her. Sometimes, that's how the season pans out.
Pyramid goes out in style and you will want to be there to experience it first-hand. See you on the dancefloor.
