Easter 2021: Eats, beats and activities on Ibiza

Fun, food and fitness - here’s how to fill the Holy Week.

Easter on Ibiza is, traditionally, a big deal. With a predominantly Catholic population, the ‘Holy Week' (Semana Santa in Spanish) runs over five days filled with spectacular processions, family activities and good food.

Ordinarily, we would see the streets filled with revellers as the church brotherhoods of the island carry giant likenesses of the Virgin Mary and Jesus through the neighbourhoods - with Ibiza Town and Santa Eulalia hosting two of the biggest and most popular Easter processions. This year, of course, will be different, as health and safety measures still forbid large gatherings.

The vibrant Easter holidays also mark the beginning of the Ibiza season for early visitors. Many of our favourite restaurants finally reopen after months of hibernation, and, one by one, the beach clubs are springing up on the golden sands of Ibiza again.

With many health and safety restrictions still in place, Easter 2021 on Ibiza will be a more pared back affair than previous years, with restaurants open to 17:00, - but there is still plenty to see and do!

Here is our Easter 2021 round-up of events, openings and tasty dining opportunities to look out for over the long weekend:

Fiesta de San José

Celebrating its patron's day on 19 March 2021, the picturesque village of San José is continuing the festivities over Easter with a varied programme of cultural and sporting events until Sunday 11 April. These include exhibitions, a time-trial cycling race and a virtual hiking challenge that tackles Ibiza's highest mountain, Sa Talaia.

Food, drink and tunes

Social Point Ibiza

Starting the long weekend in style, Social Point is putting on an art exhibition and BBQ on their spacious terrace on Thursday 1 April, at midday. Live music from The Rosemary Family will get your feet twitching when they bring their funky rumba, soul, reggae and blues beats from 15:00 onwards. On Friday 2 April, the fun continues with a €12 bargain deal on ‘burger & beer ‘combos as part of Social Point's HEINEKEN events series.

Nassau Beach Club

One of the premier addresses on the sands of Playa d'en Bossa, Nassau Beach Club offers stunning sea views, a glamorous ambience, fine dining and delectable house beats. Open every day, soak up the Easter sunshine on a plush day bed or secure a table on the terrace to feast on modern Mediterranean cuisine or fresh sushi.

Alma Eat is Life

Starting their musical programme for the 2021 season on 26 March, by the time we get to the Holy Week on Thursday 1 April, Alma Eat is Life will be fully back in the swing of things. Over the course of the next five days, a mix of Ibiza legends such as DJ Pippi, as well as international turntable talent including Los Dos, Cuts & Wines by Johannes, and Stellar with John Acquaviva and Nima Gorji will be curating your Easter soundtrack, to accompany the health food offerings, in beautiful Port des Torrent.

Tapas Restaurant & Garden Bar

A foodie institution amongst locals and island visitors in the know, San Antonio eatery Tapas Restaurant & Garden Bar returns with its namesake shareable bites on Thursday, Good Friday, and Saturday. We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but their famous Sunday Roast is already fully booked for Easter Sunday. Make sure to check out the new Bloody Mary menu featuring some interesting twists on the classic recipe!

Calle Boogaloo at Las Dalias Hippy Market

Enjoy some spicy Afro Latin Mambo beats at the famous Las Dalias Hippy Market when Juan Soul and Carlos Jurado bring their sizzling fusion of sounds to the terrace from 13:00 onwards on Saturday 3 April. The market itself is back, too, inviting you to peruse the colourful stalls filled with fashion, crystals, home decorations, jewellery and all sorts of eclectic knicks-and-knacks!

Chiringuito Cala Gracioneta

One of Ibiza's most charming and popular beach restaurants, the atmospheric Cala Gracioneta will welcome back guests from Friday 2 April, onwards. Sip on fruity sangria or potent cocktails while taking in the dazzling views on the sparkling blue sea right in front of you. After feasting on fresh seafood, healthy salads or juicy meat cuts, who would blame you for taking to the sands for a siesta after?

keep fit and EXPLORE THE ISLANDS

Aquabus ferry Ibiza to Formentera

We may not be able to travel to the mainland but both Ibiza residents and visitors to the White Isle are allowed to move between the Balearic Islands. A visit to Ibiza's sister island Formentera and its heavenly beaches is a highlight at any time of the year, so why not hop on the Aquabus ferry from Ibiza Town directly to Formentera? Make the most of this island paradise on your doorstep before the masses arrive!

SUP Paradise Ibiza

Explore the crystal waters, hidden beaches and secret coves of the White Isle from the water with a guided Stand-Up Paddleboard excursion. Setting off from San Antonio, Ibiza local Ruben will welcome you with a cocktail before teaching you the basics of this trendy pastime and showing you some real hidden gems on Ibiza's coastline.

Vespa Tours

A charming way to explore more of the White Isle, why not hop on a Vespa Tour and whizz through the forests and fields of Ibiza on your little red ride? Led by an expert guide, you'll be enjoying a three-hour tour of some of the island's most scenic areas while enjoying the feeling of freedom on two wheels!

Quad & Buggy Excursion

Those looking for something a little more adrenaline-fuelled will love a quad or buggy excursion through the Ibicencan countryside and along the rugged coastline. Swim stops and plenty of photo opportunities make this a day to remember!

Walking Ibiza guided walks & hikes

To counterbalance some of the calories we will all undoubtedly be consuming over the Easter holidays, why not join one of Walking Ibiza's guided excursions to get to know the island, it's fascinating history and quirky tales even better? A variety of routes for all abilities await, including a ‘classic' 4-hour walk in the San Rafael area on Good Friday, the challenging second stage of the Around the Island series (20km, 7 hours) on Saturday, or a ‘social' 10km stroll close to Cala Xarraca on Easter Sunday.

Solidarity Yoga class with SOS Yoga Ibiza

Rebalance your mind, stretch your body and enjoy the views on the dazzling Balearic Sea with a weekend yoga class that supports a good cause. Every Saturday and Sunday, SOS Yoga Ibiza puts on two ‘solidarity' classes on the shores of Playa d'en Bossa – at 10:00 and 10:50 – to raise funds for local organisations. Participants are asked to contribute a €5 donation, with 100% of proceeds going to charity. There are further SOS Yoga classes in Cala de Bou (Saturdays) and Santa Eulalia (Sundays).

Get your reservations in as early as possible to avoid disappointment, and don't forget your masks - these are still essential to gain access to venues, markets, and even some outdoor activities.
