Things to do this month on Ibiza - January 2019

Our choice picks for the first month of 2019.

2019 is almost upon us and with it a range of fun stuff to start the year off with a bang. You could take a cold plunge to wake up the first day of the year or just enjoy music, dance and fiesta - all whilst celebrating a brand new year of possibilities. For those of you not here for the start of the year, make sure to include a trip to the one and only White Isle this coming year.

A happy and prosperous 2019 to all of you!

Take the plunge

1 January

A dive into the waves can be fun, especially if you are joining in on the annual New Year's Dive organised by local wine shop Vino & Co, which usefully will be offering a selection of its beverages on the beach at Las Salinas from midday. It's a great way to shift a hangover. Take yourselves and some food to share with the many people that gather and say a bracing hello to 2019!

tour the island by E-bike

All month long

All through the low season, Coyma Sunride offers one of the most exhilarating (and easy going if you so choose) ways to appreciate the beauty of Ibiza - and enjoy the spectacular winter sunshine. Based in Hotel Puchet in San Antonio, Coyma Sunride can also pick you up from any part of Ibiza. The bikes are top quality and the guides really know the island.

ALL THE FUN OF THE FAIR

1-20 January

Ibiza Town's funfair just gets bigger and bigger each year and is where it's at for family entertainment. Who would not love a giant ferris wheel, roundabouts, a ghost train or witches coven? Sidle on down, get some hot churros to get you started, browse the food stalls and enter a raffle to win a bunch of Spanish hams. Fun for all, so roll up, roll up.

The second coming

2 January

Did you think New Year's celebrations stopped on the first? Well El Dia Dos from Keep on Dancing is here to disabuse you of that notion - this IS Ibiza! For a dance music journey of disco vocals to robust techno BPMs, head to the legendary Bora Bora club and join DJs Omar, Robert James, Tobi Neumann and more. Yes, it's time to polish those dancing shoes.

Pumps and pirouettes

2 January

Take yourself and any aspiring Sugar Plum fairy to Santa Eulalia for a fine late evening performance of Tchaikovsky's fantastic two-act ballet The Nutcracker at the Ibiza Congress Centre. This ballet has been lighting up Christmas worldwide since the 1960s and is now a traditional and seasonal event. An artful way to begin the year.

Stars of the east

5 January

Christmas officially has 12 days and when in Spain, all those days are used. Look out for the procession of the Three Wise Men in all the major towns of Ibiza from evening time. Full details are in our events' calendar. Your children will love the themed decorated floats and all will love this last seasonal gasp.

Wise up for a party on the beach

6 January

When the kids have had their fun on the 5th, it's time for the adults to have theirs the day of the Three Wise Men with the totally free party Mate at Nassau Beach Club on Playa d'en Bossa beach. As well as resident Mate, there's a day stuffed full of great music with a DJ line-up that includes 2VILAS, Dave Hang and Jacobo Saavedra. End Christmas and start the New Year here. Starts from 16:00.

Peace and love in the streets

12 January

San Antonio warms up winter in January with the annual hippy shake that is its Flower Power event. Don your flares, peace pendants and big curly wigs for a fabulous street party in and around the West End, just off the main promenade from 21:00. It's a love and music riot.

The art of flamenco

15 January

Now in its third year, the annual Brisa Flamenca festival comes back to San Antonio with the first day a free event taking place in the marquee in the town's main palm-lined promenade. There are three performances from top artists of the genre and local schools, starting at 19:00. The second day with acclaimed star Miguel Poveda is already sold out, so get down early to ensure a seat for this one.
