London based outfit, Solid Grooves kicked off its 4th year on Ibiza in the intimate setting of Privilege's Vista Club. After a year break to try their hand over at Benimussa park, the UK party returned to its 2016 home over at San Rafael.
Are you a groover? The iconic Solid Grooves tagline appears to be omnipresent on Ibiza. Now our turn to ask the questions, we went along for the ride to see if it would make a solid start to the season and ultimately to check out if the fiesta would be grooving.
Arriving at 2:00, the predominately British crowd with many a recognisable face had the party already in full flow. On an island littered with hefty club price tickets, the draw of a €25 ticket to see multiple headline DJs is irresistible. The dance floor was packed.
Reelow was in control of Vista's cockpit and had the dancefloor shuffling. Solid beats and groovy basslines permeated every choice of track.
At 2:30 Solid Grooves regular and tech house connoisseur Michael Bibi entered the scene. Soon, the self-produced Iglesias's Sleep Like A Stoner (Michael Bibi Remix) transcended the room.
This track epitomises the solid groove sound: high energy, high bpm, deep pumping basslines tech house bangers.
Next up to keep the solid moves on the dancefloor was the very special guest for the evening: Detlef. The British born Dj has garnished a reputation as one of the most exciting names in the underground scene and would surely be up to the task.
As Nasser Baker's Say Something blasted through the Vista club's Funktion 1 sound system with multiple strobes on the dance floor and you there you have it - a highlight of the evening.
Pawsa concluded proceedings, keeping that rolling tech house vibe strong from the outset. That distinctive pink panther theme music started creeping in and that only means one thing: Pawsa's Groovy Cat. Every time clubbers hear this groove, it makes them want to move...
As the sunlight began to pierce through the encircling windows, that was our cue to hit the exit doors of this no-nonsense party of no-nonsense tunes.
If rolling tech house is your preferred taste then this is the party for you. A gateway to many for heavier things, Solid Grooves definitely has its USP on the island, one that is bound to attract a young, English crowd week after week. We shall definitely be back for more.
