How many times have we heard that non-too-convincing statement from shivering bathers who've just spent 45 agonising minutes easing themselves into the bracing waters of the early season Mediterranean? One thing is for sure, none of the participants in the annual Christmas day swim across San Antonio harbour mentioned anything about the ambient water temperature! Whilst not exactly requiring the services of an icebreaker to clear a path through, the sea was officially pronounced 'cold' following my 'big toe test' that very morning. Nine brave men made the 300 metre swim and first to finish was local golfer Marcos Juan. We must stress here that this event, the 8th thus far, is not a race, and that all participants enter it just for the fun!
