A recent survey conducted amongst the good citizens of Ibiza town has revealed some fascinating facts. Its recently acquired image as a cool place because of the presence of 3 trendy bars on the marina and 2 nearby discotheques is exploded and the true face of Ibiza as no more than a simple country town, which has expanded too rapidly and without good planning, is shown. The main preoccupations of the population are the lack of parking facilities, noise and atmospheric pollution, and the poor quality of the water. Their living and working habits will make interesting reading for people who really do live in cool cities, as most people do not travel beyond the boundaries of the parish to work, and a startling 37% actually walk to work. An incredible 77% never use public transport, 64% have never been in a taxi, and 24% use a taxi only once a year. These figures really do demonstrate the slow pace and simplicity of life which normally prevails on the island and which has brought many immigrants from northern Europe who wish to return to simpler values.
