Now we've grabbed the attention of the 'Yoof' market, the disappointing news behind this alluring headline is an article about parking. It seems that the Ibiza Town council have yet another project on the drawing board to construct an underground 'macroparking' to alleviate the summer problem of too many cars, too little space.
Two years ago they proposed to burrow under the Vara de Rey in a desperate attempt to put cars somewhere out of the way, however a geotechnical survey revealed 3 different types of material with different behavioural characteristics which would make excavation nigh on impossible. Furthermore there was a risk that the heavy machinery involved could even cause the possible collapse of some of the beautiful buildings around the square. So with this project still 'up in the air' the council have now decided to try the area in the port of Ibiza, at the side of the Formentera ferry station, and we must stress here that they intend to survey the side under the road, not under the sea!
