Every year hundreds of migrating flamingos stop over in the Las Salinas natural park where the salt pans make an ideal nesting ground. Already over 400 of these elegant birds have been spotted in the area and it is hoped that numbers will build up to the 700 which nested last year. Visitors to the island should make an effort to go to the natural park to see the bird, known as a 'flamenco' in Spanish, which gave its name to the famous Andalucian dance. Don't forget your binoculars!
