Cala Vadella (Cala Vedella in Catalan) is a beautiful little resort spread over a hillside on the west coast of Ibiza, near the charming village of San José.
Beach
Its beach is very popular with families in the low- and high-season, due to the extremely sheltered nature of the bay, the wide sandy beach and shallow waters and the overall peacefulness of the resort. The main road running through the village is extremely curvy as it winds its way up the hill, offering stunning views of the beautiful bay below.
Cala Vadella is also very popular with yacht owners who anchor in the safe waters of this natural harbour.
Restaurants and bars
Lining the beach is an excellent selection of restaurants and beach bars, most with great views of the bay. There can be a lively night-time scene in some of the bars, and the sunsets are particularly beautiful.
Things to do
The calm waters of the sheltered bay invite you to take part in all kinds of water activities including pedalos, kayaks, Stand Up Paddle or diving at the dive school. All activities have to take place outside the protected area for swimmers, so bathing is safe here at all times.
Especially in the hot summer months a boat excursion is highly recommended and good fun for the whole family. From Cala Vadella, there are boat trips to the rock of Es Vedrà and the sister island of Formentera. Or instead, you could rent a small boat and explore the beautiful west coast for yourself.
Getting there
Cala Vadella is a 25-minute drive from San Antonio or Ibiza Town, and only 10 minutes from the lovely typical Ibizan village of San José. There are good bus connections during the summer months and a shared taxi is also not too expensive. You can also hire a car to properly explore this beautiful part of the island.
Accommodation
There is a choice of mostly smaller hotels and apartments in the resort itself and in the surrounding hills, offering tranquil surroundings and a familiar atmosphere.
Or you could rent a villa, many of which are nearby, and live the dream like the rich and famous do. If you travel with the family or a group, the price per person is much lower than you might think.
