Review: Underground Opening party 2012

Did anyone say 'Villa party'?.

Last night Ibiza Underground had its season warm up party which began at 11pm; admittedly arriving a little early my friends and I decided to grab a drink and sit outside in the garden area and relax a little before the party started.

Set back from the main road in San Rafael, Underground is one of the island's smaller clubs but after a very popular season last year it's definitely firmly stamped onto the party calendar. Being located a little off the beaten track and transformed from a Villa into a club gives the venue a raw underground edge. The crowd may not have been full of elite clubbers but I did feel as if I was invited to an exclusive party and my fellow party people were dear friends. The fact that the club used to be a villa may be the key to the chilled out vibe of the night; I felt at home in Underground - if my home had suddenly changed from an apartment to a grand villa with a garden terrace.

To get ourselves warmed up for what we had already established would be a great party, we turned to Island favourite Hierbas to get things started. I think it is safe to say we over did it and before we knew it the place was heaving and we were amongst a friendly crowd ordering yet another round of shots. Outside was filled with cocktails and chatter and with a buzzing yet welcoming ambience the party and the venue had a real chilled out vibe to it.

After even more Hierbas things started to move on from the relaxed atmosphere outside and soon enough the dance-floor was its own social entity, alight with good music and dancing feet. The party maintained a fun for all feel throughout and on top of the drinking and dancing there was a lot of talking and meeting new people going on which was great and definitely thanks to Underground's unique setting.

It was apparent from the offset that Underground prided itself on its friendly atmosphere and wasn't all about headlining DJ's but more about offering a place for people to meet, drink and dance. For those reasons Underground provided the perfect setting for a season warm up party to mark the start of a great summer... let the good times roll!
