Thursday 28th June was the date where San Antonio was finally brought up-to-date into the world of day-time pool parties, after the likes of Ushuaïa in Playa d'en Bossa set the gold standard.
Upon first impression of walking into the venue I was really impressed. Having walked past the site many times over the last few months the transformation, and speed at which it was done, has been enormous. It wasn't so long ago that all you could see was essentially a hole in the ground surrounded by some unfinished buildings. Now the whole place is laid with green plastic grass, finished floors, the pool is finished (with water!) and all of the buildings are polished up and looking really cool.
No attention to detail had been spared, with a general theme of orange being spread around the venue, from the orange VOID Soundsystem (same as the one you find at DC10 and Bora Bora), to the orange balloons cast high in the sky, to the orange champagne coolers. They have always said they wanted to change the landscape of San Antonio and the opinion people have of it, and based on first impressions this is something that has been achieved, and achieved well.
Taking that whole theme of going beyond what most San Antonio visitors are used to, the whole VIP treatment was next level stuff. With VIP beds in the pool itself, loads of sunloungers available, a VIP terrace, and then on a performance level no expense had been spared - dancers (very very hot dancers too) doing their thing on the dancefloor between the pool and DJ booth, a live violinist, a live percussionist, lighting, water jets, and loads more all adding to that luxurious, glamorous feeling.
Whilst all the various regular attendees mixed it up with the VIPs and celebrities for the opening, there are some cool events coming up at Ocean Beach Club, you can find out all you need to know on their promoter page HERE. On Mondays you have Hed Kandi, Tuesdays Deep Flight, Wednesdays are chilled days, Thursdays are Ocean Pin Up, Fridays are the Ocean Pool Parties, Saturdays are La La Land and Sundays are for Vintage, Geek House Bro's, with afterparties every night in the overlooking Pearl Lounge until 5am. San Antonio - party's over here.
