As a newbie to KM5 I was interested to see what the opening party had to offer. I had already assumed that it would be an outdoor kind of bar/club and seeing as it's very early in the season I wasn't expecting a huge crowd. So, after pulling up in a taxi and being greeted by the car park attendant, who already looked on the brink of a breakdown, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the party had in-fact attracted a strong crowd and already seemed to be buzzing inside.
Expecting a united front of bouncers and a grand entrance we were suprisingly able to simply wander into what looked like a shop door and entered BoutiKm5, the venues very own boutique. From the offset the elite, relaxed and Ibizan vibe was very much apparent and the event really marked the start of summer. BoutiKm5 clearly catered for the stylish and the affluent with a collection of what appeared to be one off designs of hand printed silk blouses, maxi dresses, sequinned blazers and statement tops in earthy colours and tribal prints.
The boutique led into the main area of the venue which featured headphones allowing guests to listen to a selection of tracks, art draped walls and on the right sat a lavish glassed off dining area. The tables were packed out with Spanish ladies and gents dining on tender steaks and sipping 250€ a bottle champagne. They were all undeniably soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying themselves chatting amongst friends to the soundtrack of island resident DJ Graham Sahara's warm up set. KM5 seemed to attract a fashion conscious crowd, proved by a man wearing a jacket covered in a plethora of nautical themed badges with words 'Sailor master' embellished on the back.
Inside the décor was light and elegant with cream rose-head lampshades hanging from the ceiling, round glass tables delicately covered in vanilla candles and deep green plants which led your eye from the restaurant to the captivating outdoors area. The lounge garden was home to both palm and orange trees decorated in rope lighting and the colour scheme from inside continued to the centre of the outside area where cream seating and umbrellas were accompanied by chest like tables that were ablaze with an orange glow. Hung above the path and central area there was a projector screen which began by playing old school films and music videos but as the night progressed they were replaced by quirky animations. Adding to the unique setting even further was a bedouin style tent which was home to warm orange sofas, red chandeliers and beautifully crafted wooden tables.
Towards the back of the garden there was a bespoke whale bar serving a wide range of cocktails, champagne and of course the island favourite Herbas. The evening also came with an array of circus acts and entertainers dressed in top hats and sporting theatrical face-paint, with some even walking around on stilts. The bouncy tech-house sounds from island favourites Iban Mendoza, Sergi Ribas and Graham Sahara complimented the chilled but exciting vibe of the party.
As midnight passed the music got louder and the party continued to fill up at a good pace and attracting a slightly older crowd than some of the island's other events the KM5 opening maintained an upbeat, friendly and excitable atmosphere throughout.
