Step Forward: Nick Curly

Who are the future stars of Ibiza? Who will be the new Sven or Morillo or Paul Van Dyk? Who doesn't want to be any of them, but will be massive anyway. Part 1 of a series of 5.

Using the word meteoric would be playing down the last couple of years Nick Curly has had; at the centre of the sound from Man, Ma, MMMM .......no I can't bring myself to say it (ok it's Mannheim for those not paying attention at the back), in the short space of 2 and a bit years, he's become one of the top charting artists on Beatport, Resident Advisor and anywhere else doing the charty thing, played all over the world and been busy making plans for Ibiza 2010.

"I am going to move out to the island for the whole summer. I am going to enjoy the place, the people, the food and the music, maybe I'll stay forever :-). I will play a residency for Kehakuma at Space on the Wednesday and I also do a label night with my Cécille label on Monday 5th July at the Cocoon Terrace at Amnesia." explained Nick from his hometown Mannheim.

Having the best intentions of the dance floor at heart, 'ye Curly one' has boshed out what can only be described as one groove bomb after another in the last 2 years, primarily through his own labels Cécille and 8bit, but also on, amongst others, Cocoon. Here's a selection to get your toes tapping.....

Another Tearjerker

Last year, he returned to the island for the first time as DJ to play the Zoo Project, Kehakuma's Opening, Cocoon and Space Closing, which paved the way for his near-weekly residency at Kehakuma this year, a night which sees pretty much every don of quality house and techno appearing (those tied down by Cocoon aside) throughout the summer. Check the listings, they are oozing with quality, clearly evident to Nick:

"I like the idea of Kehakuma very much. To my knowledge, the plan is that Space use Kehakuma to make their own introduction of the best names on the scene. So for me I'm excited to be a resident DJ and play on the terrace two or three times a month with many of the acts whose music I am playing myself. I have a lot of new material ready for my next releases and album, for sure I will be testing these tracks out at Kehakuma."

As mentioned, Nick's Cécille will showcase their own label night on Cocoon's Terrace on July 5th, with the main man being joined by Markus Fix and the amazing Cassy. Nick and Markus feature on Cécille's 2 year compilation celebration set for release right about now and if all that wasn't enough, expect to also see Nick Curly take charge of one side of the 'Cocoon Ibiza Summer' CD, along with Marco Carola. Also, keep your eyes open for an 8bit Records beach special at you-know-where!

Ibiza 2010, we say Step Forward Nick Curly!
