Ever the tease, The Hard Rock Hotel has been gradually releasing names of the artists it has enlisted for its inaugural season on the White Isle, and so far the bookings have been very high profile, diverse, top-of-their-game pop artists and groups, with only one thing missing... proper rock'n'roll.
All is rectified with this latest and greatest revelation, as the incredible rock band Placebo has been announced to play Hard Rock on the 12th of September. Despite only having three members, Placebo makes a hell of a big sound, one which soundtracked the lives of many a moody teen in the 90s and noughties, firmly placing Placebo in the golden history books of rock'n'roll.
Lead singer Brian Molko has the most distinctive voice in rock, and is an incredible producing and creative talent in his own right. Molko is no stranger to the dance music world, having collaborated with many of our scene's DJs and producers including Timo Maas. Whilst the classics like Pure Morning and Bitter End will always have a place on our playlists, Placebo have by no means been quiet these past few years. Last September Placebo released a new album, Loud Like Love, and the band is currently still touring the new offering around the globe, featuring a mixture of stadium rock bangers, melancholy ballads, plenty of social commentary and Molko's unique tone.
It's an unusual booking for Ibiza, no doubt, but that's the whole point of Hard Rock's emergence on the white isle - to bring something different and promote the live music scene, which has always been a part of the island's culture even before the DJs descended.
Placebo. September. Prepare to rock.
