This Friday the 20th of June one of the great jewels of Ibiza turns 34 (but doesn't look a day over 20, we swear!). Between 6pm and midnight, the original sunset strip bar Café del Mar is celebrating another birthday on the white isle with some special DJ sets, cocktails, a perfect sunset and you.
Café del Mar has seen the island change around it. A beautiful constant amidst ongoing transition, the sunset bar comes to life itself in the very moments of transition between day and night. On Friday we celebrate that transition, with two very different DJs who each represent two important aspects of Ibiza culture. First up, whilst the sun still has its head above water, will be Jose Padilla. Jose Padilla is recognised as the father of the globally appreciated Café Del Mar compilation series. His unique take on ambient electronica came to represent to the whole world the sounds and scenes of Ibiza's relaxed Balearic culture and his relationship with Café del Mar is as influential as it is ancient.
Once the sun has tucked itself under the horizon, the Italian techno don Marco Carola will come out to play. If Jose Padilla knows how to soundtrack a sunset, Carola knows how to play to the dawn. Though he's played on the island for many years, its only in the last few that Carola has introduced his Friday night Amnesia residency Music On and become one of the best loved techno DJs on the island, known especially for guiding his parties through the night-to-day transition with style. Every Friday evening Café del Mar hosts the official Music On pre-parties, so its only fitting that Carola turn up the volume its birthday party once the stars are out to play.
Head down on Friday evening to Café del Mar. It's beautiful, it's free to attend and you'll be enjoying a treasured part of Ibiza history.
