Ever since it was announced that Steve Aoki would be bringing his Playhouse party to Pacha on Wednesdays, the island's media has been scrambling to invent a new and interesting way of describing his antics. There's no doubt loads more to come and inevitably every event review will be 90% cake and rubber dingy references. Also, as the photographer, I can assure you I'll have plenty of photographic evidence of drunk girls crying because their hair was ruined by a 2ft wide victoria sponge, don't you worry.
Aoki will have a residency at Pacha spanning eighteen weeks, kicking off this coming Wednesday 28th May and closing out on September 24th, right at the end of the Ibiza clubbing season and, thankfully, with just enough time to take a breather before all the major club closing parties.
As with the majority of DJ's who have gone it alone to hold their own parties on Ibiza and around the world, the philosophy behind the party is to showcase the talent of their own label - in this case Aoki's Dim Mak Records - alongside a host of friends all of whom are undoubtedly major players on the world stage. Names like Fatboy Slim, Afrojack, Nervo, Martin Garrix, Benny Bennassi, Chris Lake, Laidback Luke, Zeds Dead, Borgore, Yolanda Be Cool and plenty more will play.
Particular dates to look out for are 9th July where Lil John features alongside Steve Aoki, 13th August for the Dim Mak Records takeover, 17th September for a great line-up with an as yet unannounced special guest and no doubt the opening party with Fatboy Slim.
"It's an amazing feeling to be part of the Pacha weekly crew. Roll on the summer and get ready to get messy." - Steve Aoki
This is the sort of party where throwing a cake at a disabled person in a wheelchair being held mercilessly in the air at a festival like a giant target is ok. Should be an interesting season...
**Note: Ibiza Spotlight in no way supports throwing cake at anyone, particularly the disabled. See linked video above for explanation.
