Hot! This one word sums up Ibiza perfectly this week – both in temperature and events. Everything from our own Ibiza Polo Club which held their first four day event at their new location in the north of the island at Carnes March to the building excitement and curiosity about the forthcoming 123 Festival.
Sit in any restaurant or café for half an hour and you'll smile to hear island visitors talking in awe about their holiday, be it the glorious sunshine, magical beach or great event they've managed to find. To help you find and enjoy the best, the entire team at Ibiza Spotlight swings into force every week and here's some of our favourites: -
Hotel of the Week.
I spent some time with Les, our Hotel Expert this week. His knowledge is incredible and he brings it into full force and focus when it comes to overseeing Ibiza Spotlights hotel portfolio. His recommendation this week is a beauty.
“The Hotel Buenavista in Santa Eulalia is one of the oldest hotels on the island of Ibiza but has undergone many changes including a recently completed total renovation which has left it more like a Boutique Hotel than a standard tourist destination. The service remains that of the family dedicated to the hotel founded by their grandparents but the rooms have been delightfully upgraded, chose between a classic or a rural room, the latter with wooden beams and stone walls. The beautiful pool terrace are has become a fine "chill out" area with fantastic views and you really should not miss out on the restaurant, originally an olive oil press from the 19th century.”
Villa of the Week.
KT, our Villa expert, stands shoulder to shoulder with Les on knowledge. After years of trying to talk my friends into coming out to Ibiza, now they're seeing what KT is managing to find, I am being inundated with requests! Not in the least surprising.
A client who stayed at the villa had this to say about it – “We had an excellent stay in Casa Julian. The interior décor may not be as swanky as some other villas but the grounds and pool are gorgeous. It is a good location with easy access to Ibiza Town and Playa den Bossa, and also the lovely northern beaches. We would certainly consider staying again next year.”
Looking at the gorgeous images and the amazing list of ‘all mod cons' including Wi-Fi and Satellite TV, I rather fancy a week off myself in July. Just 350 euros per person for a week and able to accommodate 6 people (or 8 with a 50 euro supplement), it's a dream getaway.
Restaurant of the Week.
One month ago a small and very beautiful restaurant in the “last village of Ibiza”, Sant Joan welcomed a new chef. This week I popped down for dinner because I had to see what all the fuss was about, having heard person after person rave about the Giri Café in the village centre.
My experience leaves me in no doubt whatsoever that I had enjoyed one of the best restaurants on the island. Want to take a sneak peek? Giri Café, Sant Joan
Club News of the Week.
Hands up from me – I have my ticket for the 123 Festival (and yes, Ocean Beach Club Opening today in San Antonio too) It was ridiculous amounts of fun going through the line-up for 123 Festival and trying to pick which day to go. Stivi, our Club Expert, takes a look at it all.
"Slowly but steadily, the Ibiza clubbing season is getting in full gear now. Most of the clubs are now open every night and more and more people are flying in to enjoy the world's epicentre of dance music that is Ibiza during the summer. It's really funny, if you do come to the island for a while already, you can be sure you'll meet some friends again while clubbing without even having to arrange a meet up. It's just how things work here; it's part of the magic that is our beloved little island.
Of course we were out a lot again recently (what else, eh?); we hit Privilege, Eden, Pacha, Amnesia, Space and Ushuaïa and had brilliant times! Have a look at our review section for reports of our latest ramblings . We've also noticed the air cons in the clubs have been put to full power already...because the summer heat has arrived early this year.
Obviously the main focus for the next weekend is the Ibiza123 Rocktronic Festival. Everyone at Spotlight (yes everyone, not just the club kids!) is super excited about it and we can't wait for this! The location and the setting is just unique and it's gonna be interesting to see how the "rocktronic" idea will work out! Detailed reports to follow of course. Wish you were here?"
Things to Do.
Looking at this section of the column makes me chuckle. The island is so alive, has so much going on that to try and pick just a couple of things is almost impossible.
One of our writers picked up on a fabulous event that starts today and every Thursday of the Summer going forward. The village of San Rafael, known to most clubbers as the home of Amnesia and Privilege is also the only official artisan zone on the island and will be hosting quite a craft fair, including the islands famous ceramic works. To find out more – San Rafael Craft Fair. Keep eyes and ears open for the live music and dancing that also accompanies the weekly event.
Caz, who is our star behind the running of the phenomenal What's on / Ibiza Events calendar brought my attention to the rather fabulous looking exhibition entitled 302 Años (302 years), incorporating everything from contemporary photography to some rather provoking sculptures in Congress Palace, Santa Eulalia.
