Easter in Ibiza: Pirates and Processions

As usual, the Easter period in Ibiza will be marked by sombre, yet spectacular, religious processions through Ibiza town and Santa Eulalia. In Ibiza the big procession takes place on Good Friday when religious brotherhoods consisting of hundreds of penitents wearing flowing robes and sinister pointed hats bear statues from the cathedral around the streets of the town. Santa Eulalia has processions on both the Thursday and Friday and all of them start around 20.00 hours.

San Antonio, which is host to the Ruta de la Sal yachting regatta, has chosen to provide entertainment of a more secular nature for the hundreds of nautical coves, local people and holidaymakers in the town by putting on a pirate festival. It'll be along the same lines as Flower Power, La Movida and the Friki Party where all the bars in the town centre are themed up for the evening. I predict eye patches, bandanas, parrots and peg legs will be de rigueur on Good Friday (starting at 21.00) in San Antonio and it'll give me another chance to shout 'Avast behind' at my wife without fear of walking the plank!
