Records are tumbling at Ibiza airport where passenger numbers have been higher than ever this year. With only 9 months gone the airport has seen nearly 5 million passengers (which means about 2.5 million individuals) pass through its portals. Much was made of this figure last year when for the first time ever, the 5 million mark was passed in the final month, so it shows how well we're doing this year with another 3 months still to go!
The three main summer months, July, August and now September have witnessed record numbers of passengers at the airport, with over 850,000 passengers last month, a 13% increase over the previous year.
The increase in numbers has also made Ibiza's hoteliers happy too. They've had average occupancy levels of 80% throughout the summer, a 7% increase on last year, with August leading the way with 95.5% occupancy.
