Staff picks | Party radar for August 2024

Our club team select their highlights from July and look forward to the month ahead.

Nobody has a more informed overview of the party scene here on Ibiza, than the seasoned clubbers at Ibiza Spotlight. Are we blowing our own trumpet? Well, yes, a little - and justifiably so.

Cumulatively, no organisation matches the number of hours spent on the island's dancefloors down the years since we launched in 1976 (and we shows the signs of wear and tear to prove it!). Without having the exact data to hand, that's easily a fact, we're confident in saying.

Here, we recount the highlights from July and look ahead to the DJs we can't wait to see in August.

July highlight

Ben Böhmer | Brunch Elektronik | 528 Ibiza | 19 July

Brunch Elektronik at 528 Ibiza has rapidly become a cornerstone of my Ibiza experience. During its short run, it consistently delivering some of the most unforgettable daytime parties the island has to offer.

Ben Böhmer and Innellea on the 19 July was my favourite of the series of three. A long-time fan of Ben Böhmer’s melodic mastery, I enjoyed every moment. Ben’s array of musical hardware included MIDI keyboards, an Ableton Push 3, a mixer and apollo audio interface.

After he'd finished his masterclass, Innellea then brought it home with some heavy hitting Melodic Techno and throwbacks. Bodies moved, sweat dripped and fists pumped non-stop. The atmosphere was immaculate.

Worried About Henry | Eden Ibiza by Jack Kimber

Culture Shock | Worried About Henry | Eden | 26 August

Every Monday, Liquid D&B legends Hybrid Minds have been tearing it up at Eden with an all star line-up of selectors for Worried About Henry. Joining them on the 26 August is none other than dancefloor heavyweight Culture Shock.

Having witnessed the raw power of both artists throwing it down on their respective Australia tours, I can confidently say that this is an absolute must-attend party for any Drum & Bass fan.

Their unique styles paired with Eden’s behemoth Void Incubus Gold sound system, will no doubt create an unforgettable night on the dancefloor.

Amnesia Present

Sonny Fodera B2B MK | Amnesia Presents | Amnesia | 15 July

Bringing back their 2022 format of weekly special guests, Sonny Fodera and Danny Howard have smashed it out the park with their weekly Amnesia Presents residency this year. Acts such as Oden & Fatzo, LF System and Jazzy have already joined them on The Terrace this summer.

A particular clubbing highlight from July, saw MK rock up for an impromptu back-to-back with Sonny for the last three hours. I guess if you’re as big as MK, you can do whatever you want! That's some pretty epic stuff right there.

On the radar for August

Skepta presents Mas Tiempo | Palmarama | Playa Soleil | 11 August

Following a debut summer that had Ibiza partygoers in a frenzy, Playa Soleil's flagship Sunday party Palmarama has been going IN this season. The line-ups have been, quite frankly, out of this world.

On 11 August, things get taken up a notch, as London rapper turned respected House music DJ/producer Skepta and his coveted Mas Tiempo brand are reeled into the sophisticated walls of Playa Soleil.

With the line-up still TBA, the options are endless, as Palmarama knows no limits when it comes to booking the best talent in the game.

Clockwork Orange | Es Paradis

Clockwork Orange | Es Paradis | 19 July

Clockwork Orange landed for its annual Ibiza ceremony, bringing its legions of old school DJs and its party-ready fans. Friday night saw the first of the club parties, with Es Paradis hosting Danny Clockwork, Andy Manston and pals for an early evening celebration.

The energy this party brought was unreal, clubbers covered every spec of the dancefloor, lining the stairs and podiums for a sweaty night of anthems. No one stood still, me included.

My legs, arms, and face ached from all the grinning and hands-in-the-air belters they blasted all night long. It was a golden-year revival, filled with golden oldies - along with energetic some younger recruits - that felt like a homecoming.

Bedouin present Saga | Pacha Ibiza by Raul Sanchez

Damian Lazurus | Bedouin present Saga | Pacha | 21 August

Damian Lazarus holds down Hï Ibiza's Club Room all summer, but seeing his name appear alongside the Bedouin boys for Saga at Pacha is a little different. I watched his 2023 panel at International Music Summit, where he was just as enchanting in person, as he is DJing.

He has a certain presence and his super cool style - and even cooler hat collection - always make him one to watch. I’ve always found Bedouin to have a similar kind of energy; curious and mysterious but also authentic.

I think these guys together in the booth will be something special.

Flower Power | Pacha Ibiza

Grace Jones | Flower Power | Pacha | 29 July

Dear Flower Power’s booking team, you deserve a raise! I know Ibiza is the destination for bucket list moments, but dancing in the presence of Pop diva Grace Jones, that’s once in a lifetime shizz.

Owning Pacha's stage at the empowering age of 76, Grace Jones performed a tracklist of '80s favourites, from Nightclubbing to curtain closer Slave To The Rhythm, which she naturally sang whilst hula-hooping to the entirety of the track. What a woman!

Admittedly, three seasons in and this was my first venture to Flower Power. However, with this calibre of DJ and live PA guests on the 2024 line-up, they might have just found their newest follower.

On the radar for August

get-traum | TRIP | Club Chinois by Mario Pinta

Traumer | TRIP | Club Chinois | 3 August

Parisian maestro Traumer is back in town for the third instalment of his get-traum label link-up with Club Chinois' Saturday night host TRIP.

Minimal in sound but maximum on hypnotic infatuation, Traumer is a stand-out selector and the epitome of TRIP's transportive vision. Also keeping company are Apollonia founding member Shonky and House music aficionado Djebali.

In the heat of peak-season madness, a night in Club Chinois' sonic sanctum guided by the winding grooves of Traumer is a slice of sonic escapism I just can't turn down.
