Raft of musical talent coming to Akasha in next month

Weekend nights in the northern outpost of Las Dalias never looked more tempting.

From the moment you step off the plane, you are bombarded with billboards and posters from all the parties, featuring the names and faces of the world's most prominent DJs. This is the number one party island on the planet, after all.

One club you'll seldom see shoved in your face, though, is Akasha.

For good reason - both principled and practical - the intimate club space at Las Dalias in the north of the island keeps a lower profile.

The 300-person capacity means that the budgets are lower and, aside from that, Akasha is a proper underground club which does not have the same commercial ambitions as its southern giants.

Therefore, you might be tempted to think the calibre of DJs playing is less. But that would be incorrect.

Matching the underdog status of the club itself, the artists booked for Akasha are hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Discovery doesn't come easy, though. Being off the beaten track and away from the rest of the nightlife, you really need to want to search it out.

If you're prepared to do so, you will be rewarded...

A raft of musical talent

In the next month alone, a raft of musical talent is coming to Akasha.

Starting this weekend, you have the opportunity to catch some amazing DJs. Audiofly's Anthony Middleton, Francesca Lombardo and a special guest TBA are in town on Friday 28 June, followed by Dave Seaman's Seladoria on Saturday 29 June.

The following week, SXM Festival comes all the way from the former Dutch colony St. Martin in the Carribean, bringing Oxia and Sander Kleinenberg among others on Friday 5 July.

There's a midweek adventure from island resident Iban Mendoza on Thursday 11 July. The live showcases Gala features off-the-cuff live instrumentation from Iban himself, Rodriguez Jr and Hannes Bieger. This party starts with an evening garden session outside.

Later in the programme, Saturday 13 July welcomes Acid-innovator Josh Wink of Higher State Of Consciousness fame and second-generation DJ Jaime Fiorito.

Then on Saturday 20 July Tripolism and Robbie Akbal at behind the controls.
