Ibiza may be most famous for its glorious beaches – but did you know that the White Isle's countryside is just as beautiful?
From majestic mountains to fragrant forests and rolling fields – known locally as the 'campos de Ibiza' – away from the coastline you are entering another world entirely.
Over the last ten years, the popularity of countryside hotels as an alternative to the island's vibrant resorts has increased dramatically. And where there is demand, supply follows, with beautiful rural accommodation options springing up all over Ibiza.
These fall into two different categories: former working farms known as 'agroturismos' and traditional Ibizan country houses that have been converted into 'hoteles rurales'.
Agroturismos
The term 'agroturismo' originated in Italy and was traditionally used to describe working farms that were letting out bedrooms to visitors. Over the past decade, Ibiza has taken this simple concept to a whole new level, with countryside-dwelling holidaymakers not having to miss out on any creature comforts.
Hoteles Rurales
The 'hoteles rurales' are – technically speaking - closest in nature to the traditional Bed & Breakfast. Ibicencan country houses that have been beautifully converted into hotel accommodation vary in size and style - and not all of them have their own restaurants. You will be able to enjoy a hearty breakfast but might have to venture out for lunch and dinner (thank God there is no shortage of amazing restaurants to try on Ibiza!)
However, don't expect B&B prices when booking the 'hotel rural' of your dreams! This is Ibiza, after all, and the peaceful sceneries, tranquillity, and country chic design can come at a higher cost than you might be used to.
