Over the last few weeks, all of the island’s super-clubs have opened for their 2024 summer season. Yet there was one big player yet to make its entrance: Amnesia. On Saturday, 11 May, the wait was over. It was time for Amnesia to step into the limelight with its Opening Party.
Eager as anything, I woke up in the morning like a kid at Christmas morning! Usually setting an alarm doesn't sit too well with me, but when its for breakfast at Amnesia Terrace, the iPhone horn doesn't sound nearly as bad. Hayley collected me and we headed down eagerly for 08:00.
The line-up was nothing short of electronic excellence, boasting a diverse array of talent across both the Terraza and Main Room. That's just what we've come to expect from these curtain-raisers.
The Terraza played host to early sets by Cristina Lazic, club residents Mar-T back-to-back Caal, and Green Velvet through to dawn, before the Balearic sun rose and illuminated the dancefloor for sets from Dennis Cruz, Honey Dijon and one Joseph Capriati.
These three hailed in the new season with some of the best House music heard in a while.
Meanwhile, the Main Room was thumping (quite literally) with the harder sounds of the Techno. Electrifying performances came from 999999999, Andres Campo, Kobosil, Luca Donzelli, Marco Faraone and Nina Kraviz.
Once the main room shut its doors at 10:00, the last few hours of magic continued in the light-filled Terraza - and it was tangible.
Aside from the incredible audio backdrop, a dazzling troupe of dancers took turns to jump on the podiums in bedazzling outfits. As soon as they came off, the rabid partygoers were straight up in their place, desperate to get those magnificent views of the DJ booth and floor below.
Surprisingly, amidst the sea of revellers, there were hardly any phones in sight, a testament to the lived-in-the-moment atmosphere that enveloped the space. Long may that continue. Has the tide turned for filming on the dancefloor? I guess we'll see.
A pivotal moment in the summer clubbing calendar, to say the least, this one certainly lived up to the expectation. Our sunrise session would leave a lasting impression that won't be forgotten anytime soon.
Over the coming weeks, Amnesia gradually ramps up its full summer schedule.
The action continues with Do Not Sleep's opening party this Thursday, followed by elrow on Saturday 25 May, and an exclusive headline set by ARTBAT on Friday 31 May, but it's not until mid-June that things really kick into high gear.
