Ibiza beach of the week: Cala Xuclar

Escape the crowds and embrace the tranquility.

Everyone has their own favourite ‘secret’ cove on Ibiza. Cala Xuclar is definitely one of ours.

This secluded cove has all the characteristics of the perfect place to get away from it all. It’s petite, peaceful and shaded. Swimming and snorkelling in the shallow water - make sure you explore the immediate coastline to the right and left of the cove - are spectacular. Depending on the time of year, sunsets here are spellbinding

The beach is pebbly, with sand - interspersed with stones - only at the rear. Take bathing shoes if you have them.

The surrounding area is also great for walks.

Located in the north of the island, on the road to Portinatx, it is close to the larger Cala Xarraca. Cala Xuclar takes some getting to, but you will be amply rewarded for making the effort thanks to the cove's unique peace and calm, clear water, and exquisite natural surroundings.

Parking can be difficult at the best of times and in high summer worse; which is why you may find getting there on two wheels beats four. What's more, arriving early is a good idea. There is a tiny chiringuito restaurant - think barefoot-in-the-sand dining - open in the summer months - that serves high-quality seafood and fish, but be sure to book ahead. Alternatively, bring your own picnic.

Our photos by our photographer La Skimal should definitely whet your appetite.
