Ibiza, eh! No matter the year, it still has a habit of throwing up surprises - and nice ones, at that. Early May presents the latest one. Cosmic Pineapple has pulled it out of the bag, returning to Las Dalias and Akasha on one of their later spring schedule dates.
Sunday 5 May will witness the long overdue return to Ibiza for legendary French DJ Laurent Garnier.
Located in the north of the island, Ibiza's oldest music venue will host the genius behind The Man With The Red Face and Crispy Bacon on what's set to be one of the most unmissable parties of the decade.
Laurent Garnier has a long history of playing on Ibiza. You could always count on his name popping up at Coxy's party at Space once a season. Yet we have rarely had the pleasure of his presence in the past ten years.
In fact, he's only played on the island once since 2014. Although there were rumours circulating he would make an appearance last season, ultimately, it never materialised.
In recent years he has kept the island at arm's length, citing disapproval at an increased emphasis on VIP culture and restrictive ticket pricing, as explained in his Electrochoc autobiography.
Of course, it's these grievances (or rather the lack of them), which make Las Dalias and Akasha the perfect space for him.
We just know he will thrive in the centrally-positioned DJ booth, in an intimate setting with pristine sound and capped at 300 attendees. Just the thought alone is enough to make the hairs on the back of our neck stand on end.
Much credit must be given to Kim Booth, the curator at Cosmic Pineapple, and the team at Las Dalias for finally ending Laurent's self-imposed exile. Together, they have pulled off a real David versus Goliath upset. Ibiza's clubbing contingent are the beneficiaries.
Tickets are extremely limited, with the capacity of Akasha just 300 people as mentioned above. Therefore, your prompt attention is advised. With tickets only €23 (+BF), of which €3 goes directly to EarthPercent, this might be the best value club night on the planet.
The rest of the line-up includes a special guest, Chabeli, Lex Wolf, Mirko Loko, Sadeedo, Xx Isis xX and the eccentric BabyJane. The garden opens at midday, with free admission until 21:00.
Only then once we move inside Akasha, does having a ticket become essential - this is where Laurent will play.
