John Digweed headlines Akasha this Friday 10 March

An intimate date with the Bedrock Records boss this coming weekend.

Just as the clubs are starting to announce their ambitious summer plans, is worth remembering we're only at the start of March. Things may be quiet here at the moment, they aren't completely still.

In the north, Akasha continues to entertain with its weekend winter programme.

This time next week is an especially big date, as Bedrock Records boss John Digweed makes his debut at the club. He's just the latest in a growing line of high-stature DJs to take a booking at the boutique space at Las Dalias.

Clearly word is getting around the international DJ community about what a hidden gem is it. Sasha, who lives here year-round, loves playing Akasha and last sold-out the club only two weeks ago. Do you think he may have had a quiet whisper in his old friend's ear?

Digweed commands a loyal following wherever he plays, but the intimacy that Akasha offers makes this an opportunity not to be overlooked.

The DJ booth is positioned in the centre of the room, Boiler Room style (only minus the throbbers and attention-seekers that blight that particular platform).

Quite the opposite, Akasha's "local" crowd - Ibicencos, guiri expats and worldly hippy types - are a close-knit community that live and breath their music. The dancefloor is filled with clubbers in the head's down, eye's closed mould - all getting lost in the music. And not a phone in sight.

The club's acoustics are incredible and demand DJs of Digweed's calibre to be playing through them. He remains one of the very elite tier of selectors whose taste is held in irrefutable regard by his fan base.

How many other DJs can put their radio shows and tracklists behind a subscription paywall? Thirty years on from Renaissance and Northern Exposure, he still values the power of the mix and the psychology of taking clubbers on a journey.

From Heaven in London to New York's Twilo, Stereo in Montreal to Treehouse Miami; Digweed is synonymous with some of the best clubs on the planet.

After Friday night we think John might be adding to his list of favourite venues to play. Let's give him a warm Akasha welcome - and give him a reason for a return visit later this year!

If you're fortunate enough to be visiting the island next weekend, then the stars have really aligned for you. For those of you reading who live here, we guess we're preaching to the choir already.

Regardless of whether a visitor or a resident, we look forward to sharing a dancefloor with you on this special occasion.
