Our jewel in the north, Akasha reopened on Saturday with Sasha getting the club's 2023 account underway with a full sell-out. What a return. Its winter programme continues this weekend, with Amine K making his debut on Saturday 25 February for the next thrilling instalment.
Joined on the night by Audera, the Moroccan DJ promises an embarrassment of musical riches from his homeland and further afield. His distinct art of storytelling reflects his African roots, as well as containing influences from further afield.
Amine was kind enough to take over our Deep House playlist and give everybody a glimpse into what to expect musically on Saturday night.
Amine K's Deep House playlist takeover
Amine K | Venus | Stereo Productions
"One of my favourite own productions. It sounds deep, dark and dirty. Played at the right moment and at the right time, it will uplift and destroy any dancefloor. It's the perfect mix of my old tribal groggy sound and my more modern organic direction."
Enzo Siffredi & Joezi | Star Nights | Wired Music
"That Frankie bassline coupled with a modern Afro-beat has been the perfect opener for me lately. It just gets people's attention, putting them in an open-minded mood and getting them ready for whatever is about to come next (which I usually have no idea of, by the way!)"
Dean Mickoski | Colombiana | Hurry Up Slowly
"Tribal is back! I can feel it and there's nobody happier than me. I've always loved percussion. I grew up with it and there are many examples in my sets. This track from Dean is the perfect embodiment of this comeback.
It will wake up the dead, getting you up on your tits to get the devil in you to rise and shine!"
Ivory | I Know What You Want | Innervisions
"The closing track is as important as the opening one, and this is how you send people off. I rarely find tracks as good as this one to send people home in the best way possible. Hats off to Ivory for this gem. The full album version is my favourite."
Steve Lawler & Marco Lys feat Joy Farrukh | If Only You Knew | DFTD
"I'm a House head. Always have been and always will be. So I'm happy to come back to my roots and blend all the genres that I have been playing for the past 24 years. This track is the perfect modern House music tune, of which sadly there are not many lately.
Maybe I should start producing straight-up House music?"
Amine K | Taran | Abracadabra
"One of my more obscure and deeper tracks, it has the perfect after-hour atmosphere with a crazy Reggaeton vibe on the break. The track was released in early pandemic times so it didn't get the right exposure, but it's still a banger in my sets!"
