The Six Senses Hotel to support 11 environmental and social projects during 2022

0.5% of annual profit donated to caring for our community.

In line with its sworn aim to preserve the environment and push for sustainable social development in Ibiza, Six Senses hotel, located in Cala Xarraca in the north of the island, presented the eight local projects it will be backing this coming year at a meeting last week. That’s on top of the three existing projects this highly eco-conscious hotel has been aiding since it opened in July 2021.

At the meeting, attended by representatives of the projects, the hotel’s non-profit fund declared the dual focus of its work this year: education and the treatment of plastic waste. In 2022 it will collaborate with the following associations and collectives: Alianza por el Agua de Ibiza y Formentera, Conciencia Plástica, Studio Rethink Ibiza, CEIP Torres de Balàfia, Casita Verde, Pachamama Beach, IBEEza and APNEEF.

The 11 local initiatives supported include various schemes to reduce and recycle plastic waste, in particular on beaches, defend endangered local fauna, including bees and hedgehogs and develop a ‘green’ website/app to promote the island’s farmers and small firms who embody eco-values.

When it comes to education, the fund will foster a centre of natural sciences where schoolchildren will be able to learn all about the effects of plastic waste on the marine environment from both a local and global perspective. An essential part of this focus on education will be its work with children with special needs.

As part of its core objective to take care of the environment, Six Senses hotel devotes 0.5% of its annual profits to the fund. As its Regional Director of Sustainability, Marta Cardoso, proudly points out, “The Sustainability Fund is designed with our community’s welfare in mind. We were surprised to discover all the projects focused on caring for the environment and the wholehearted commitment of people living on the island who have expressed an interest in taking part in the fund’s work. These projects perfectly match our mission, which is to support sustainable development in our local community, whether it’s environmental or social”.
