Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, which shortened the summer season to barely two months, many people here on Ibiza are about experience a winter of great hardship and hunger. With little hope of pay, high rental prices and wide-scale homelessness, many families here in Ibiza need your urgent help, NOW.
Luckily there is an army of volunteers that are already bringing relief to those that need it.
Focussed on Marco Martín at Carritos Solidarios, 7 local and international relief charities, supermarkets and generous local businesses have joined forces to come to their aid and currently deliver food parcels to 2000 people. Sadly, this number is expected estimated to rise to ten thousand this winter. That's close to 10% of the island's population!
So, how can you help? There are three simple ways:
- The next time you're out shopping, add a few extra items to your trolly that you would like to donate and then, once you've checked out, you need to place these items into the Carritos Solidarios trolley that you'll find at the exit of the supermarket.
- Alternatively, you can make cash donations, online, to Ibiza Food Bank at their Go Fund Me page. This will be covnerted into vouchers to buy fresh produce and top up essential items in short supply.
- If you would like to make a difference on the ground, you can volunteer your time to these organisations to make sure that the donations reach their beneficiaries. Associacio de Voluntaris d'Eivissa and Equip Voluntari
Please help by donating what you can afford to give. It's not only food that is urgently needed - gluten free products, baby food, cleaning materials and and sanitary products are also in very short supply. This is a growing crisis and everything you do donate will make a real difference.
Buy. Donate. Volunteer.
